Florio offers a conspiracy theory

That leads to a broader question. Why did the Seahawks acknowledge interest in Brown? Surely they knew that this could prompt other contenders, especially in the NFC, to get involved. Surely they knew that Tom Brady was still pushing for the Bucs to sign Brown.

So why do it? Here’s a theory. Or maybe it’s technically a hypothesis. Regardless, what if the powers-that-be in Seattle have decided that Brown hasn’t changed, that he’ll be a problem, and that he’ll potential derail the next team with which he signs? It’s possibly a Trojan Horse-style concept, a next-level effort by the Seahawks to get the Buccaneers to disrupt team chemistry with a guy who will potentially throw everything out of whack.

Ultimately, the distinction is binary. The Seahawks either recklessly invited a competitor to swoop in, or they did it deliberately. Given that the Seahawks have had a winning record every year since 2012, it could be safe to say that this was no accident. If so, time will tell whether the calculated effort to plant a virus in a Tampa Bay team that could be the most complete in the NFC helps the Seahawks clear out a team that could keep Pete Carroll, Russell Wilson and company from getting back to the Super Bowl.

Hopefully he destroys the Bucs by being a malcontent after Mike Evans, Godwin, and Gronk get more targets than him. I'd like to see a Bucs meltdown. Hotdog neck in effect...

Pretty sure that vaults TB into the clear favorite for the SB.

Damnit.

Brown, Brady, Arians in an awful state.

Just another reason to hate them.

Not sure why you think that, considering history and $h!t. I'm thinking just the opposite.

TB's thinking 2019 when the Pats started with riches with pass catchers and that rapidly dwindled. And that he thinks he can corral AB for the year, maybe two, that TB12 will be wearing any NFL uniform.

What TB hasn't seen is a pattern of repetitive failure that's dogged AB starting when he was on the Steelers and onward. You give these types an inch and they take a county mile in terms of what they think their fame entitles them to.

GH,

TB has the 2nd best defense in the NFL. They also have one of the most dangerous offenses.

Coaching is not spectacular but not terrible.

They just shellacked GB, which some were picking as the #1 team in the country. I doubt we could beat GB right now (maybe now...with Jones out..but otherwise? No.)

We certainly could not come close to beating even the Cleveland Browns by the margin that TB put on Green Bay.

Who else would be the clear favorite if not Tampa?

Disappointing.

While we as fans (and possibly the FO) wring hands over frivolous and likely inconsequential nothings, a Super Bowl competitor swoops in and does what serious teams do.

The ceiling and floor are both high on this move for Tampa. Just like it would have been for Seattle.

Darn.

Now Pete and John can go out and spend some money or trade for some defensive help......

A.B. would not have been happy here with the targets he would get and it most likely would have affected our current WR group in a negative way as well. I for one am glad his clown show will not be disrupting the Seahawks.

Why will he get more targets in Tampa?

Have you seen who Brady already had to throw the ball to?

As Seahawk fans we tell ourselves this garbage all the time. Lucky for Tampa, their philosophy is to put better football players on the field than the other team has. Pretty good formula for success. Better than worrying about hurt feelings and stats for DK and Tyler.

Ah yes, the vaunted Buccaneer model.

The team that last made the playoffs in the 2007 season. The team that has been to the playoffs twice since winning the Super Bowl, which is the last time they won a playoff game. They've had an amazing 107-165 record over that period.

GM Jason Licht has really done a great job with this team since 2014. They've gone 2-14, 6-10, 9-7, 5-11, 5-11, and 7-9. Just stellar. If only Seahawks fans knew the glory of the Buccaneer GM model that netted double digit losses in 2/3rds of those seasons.

I still feel like this was a bullet dodged. He’s still a 32 year old receiver with very limited playing time for 2 years. The team doesn’t need him and Gordon is still there eventually I hope. They need to keep dancing with the girl that got them to 5-0 offensively and develop chemistry and improve defensively. They don’t need to peak NOW. They have a lead and are set up perfectly to now play some great teams and harden up like steel and then feast on the weaker end of the schedule, healing up and refining for a playoff run. Barring injury we are sitting pretty and AB would have possibly changed the dynamic. Like a perfect group of friends that allows that one crazy a-hole to tag along and ruins everything. LOL.

Who's referring to what they have done in the past?

I thought this was a thread about what they did today. And what they did today can only improve their shot at winning the Super Bowl.

Meantime, some hawk fans are breathing a sigh of relief because our receivers won't have hurt feelings.

That's small time.

I think it’s more about production. What’s the actual upside? Just takes away from DK or Tyler’s catches. We don’t get more pass attempts per game magically so who do you take reps from to provide enough to satisfy a guy like AB? It’s not about feelings. It’s just football. If we were struggling and DK was on his own then sure. Makes more sense. Tampa has mad WR injury issues and Brady has a bit of history with AB. Made more sense for them.

The biggest reason for the Bucs to sign AB was to prevent us from signing him.

They got better.

We stayed the same.

There is no reason to be happy about that. Can't blame our FO though. We put it out we wanted him. We clearly would have signed him given the chance.

Someone just wanted him more. Sometimes you get beat to the punch or outbid. It happens.

But short of locking Norton in a closet before gameday, they pretty much assured we won't be able to beat the Bucs now.

Credit the Seahawks for Dangling the low fruit that the Bucs grabbed, Arians is already a hand full as the Coach and is able to go off on anyone at anytime, AB is going to be a target at some point, that should work well, they have a bunch of WR's there that they have to get the ball to and AB wants to be a primary target which means he will bitch at Brady, so that should go well also.

Not even close. Pittsburgh is #1 by a country mile, and the #2 is 10 percentage points back. The Seahawks are 10th.

Meanhwhile, the Seahawks offense is 31st on 3rd down. AB could really help.
This is crazy that only the Jets are slightly worse on 3rd downs than one of the best offenses. Hopefully Gordon can help there.
