Dude is ACTING like a dipshit, certainly. I'm not "white knighting" the guy or excusing his behavior at all, but people like you who don't consider for a single nanosecond that some small percentage of people in this world might be doing weird or f'd up stuff because of some sort of mental problem they don't have power or control over is ignorant. Maybe that's his situation, and maybe it isn't. I bet you also think forks make people fat and guns kill people, too....rather than HUMANS and HUMAN BEHAVIOR being the real faults there. So many people are still remarkably naive and ignorant about mental health problems and the need to identify them and treat them, it's so frustrating. You're acting like this is a black and white situation when the reality is that almost everything in this world is actually some shade of gray.
So parading around naked in front of hired employees or grabbing an older lady in a pool or sexual harassment of a trainer refusing to pay child support attempted murder and then he comes out and tells everyone his behavior is from cte? Ok…. Sounds like he is working on his defense. Maybe he does have cte, but he is admittedly aware of it if he does so what is he doing about it besides partying…. Smh

Why do posters who are a certain way always act a certain way?

I wouldn't leap to conclusions with him too much. Literally ALL of his troubles started after that MASSIVE hit and bad concussion he took with the Stealers in 2016. I suspect he has legitimate CTE-induced mental problems nowadays, which is sad. Currently, CTE can only be confirmed via autopsy though, so...
Are you suggesting that people with CTE or other mental issues shouldn’t be held accountable for their actions?

IMO at a bare minimum if folks are a danger to themselves or others they should be removed from society.

I agree with all of that, but we're talking about ONE guy who routinely acts like a jerk and shows no signs of remorse. There is no reason to spend any amount of time defending this person or trying to figure out where he's coming from until he recognizes his issues.

I feel for anyone with mental issues, otherwise I wouldn't have volunteered my time with mentally disabled persons at retirement communitees. So don't come on here and attempt to know anything about me or my character. Fact is you don't know anything about me or my background, and that's probably for the best. You may as well keep all that bs to yourself, I would never accept criticism from someone I wouldn't accept advice from. Besides, this was never a thread about any of that, this is about AB.

*Also, people that don't know right from wrong kill people. But we're not getting into that on a sports forum, lol.

Have a good day, but keep your days out of my week. I won't be entertaining anymore conjecture or assumptions about who I am moving forward in this thread. Looks like you have a few more posters to educate though, you have your work cut out for you today. Good luck.

It’s crazy how some guys can’t make a statement without first personally attacking whoever they disagree with

This thread got me looking back a bit at the life and pro career of this guy. With all of his legal issues and erratic behavior clouding the picture, it even got lost on me there what a great receiver he was. I think he should be a HOFer. I mean, when you're a first team All Pro four years in a row at your position you should be in. That means you were dominant, and if you dominate your position like that for a number of years you were among the best of the best of your era. Also, you got to respect what he had to overcome to make it to the NFL and succeed the way he did. You don't do that unless you've got a psycho inner drive. It was a nice little memory refresh for me.

It sure seems like AB's mental issues preceded his NFL career and went beyond the challenges of his difficult upbringing. I obviously don't know for certain. The guy's also broke now and has seven children. Whew. It's pretty clear to me that this guy has very little impulse control, and very dangerous in that way.

Another cautionary tale.

That "routinely acts like a jerk" part only starting after a bad concussion is just a completely irrelevant aspect, huh? Have a nice life. Also, you only accepting criticism from certain people who meet a standard you define does not surprise me at all. I don't think your stance on that is as positive of a character trait as you think it is. Valid criticism can come from ANYWHERE in this world; you seem to have made a nice excuse to just write off most any criticism you don't care to hear from what I can tell, but hey; enjoy!

He was a narcissist long before the CtE. The clunk to the head just sent that into hyperdrive.

He's far from the only narcissistic player in the NFL. ;) My point is, he went from "typical NFL starter" to "crazy, and growing disturbingly crazy" shortly after a very serious concussion. Related or not? No way for us to know for certain. Anyone who just dismisses that possibility is naive as hell, though. :)

I believe the “possibility” as you put it is real, I’d go as far as saying it’s likely.

My related question is, do people that have these issues get held accountable for their actions, or do they get a pass?

Some will say “it depends”.

I believe it’s extremely rare that someone with mental illness has zero control over what they do, IMO mental illness gets used way to often as an excuse for bad behavior.

As I stated up thread, dangerous to self or others = removal from society until you are no longer a threat (even if that’s the entire rest of your life).

Due process should be afforded to all, but the process should absolutely happen.
