Um yeah, that was probably a strike. (Maybe don't blink during the pitch if you're the ump, eh?)

This. I think there should be way more challenges.I love the ABS, I would like to see at least 3 challenges. We have been clamoring for this for so long. No more steering games even if its sub consciously. Love it!!

We have needed this for so long, and I support it for most all reversals when evidenced by the ABS pitch location graphic. Pitches are just too quick, fast, and deceptive for human umpires to consistently call accurately.
However, there is currently a lot of discussion on social media regarding pitch locations that barely kiss the edge of the strike zone box (or maybe I should say enter the strike zone box by a barely discernable amount), which according to current rules, should technically be called a strike. Below image serves as an example. I'm struggling with this a bit because ABS-ruled strikes that barely kiss the box is basically enlarging the strike-zone box (compared to how umps have usually called such pitches prior to ABS), which benefits the pitcher. Will be interesting to see what tweaks they make for the 2027 season, and I'm sure there'll be a few.
This is an old post reply but yes.. too much... a tenth of an inch of the baseball hitting the zone.. is.. stupid... it should be at least half of the ball period... And ill stand by this and not care what anyone says.. because we've NEVER had this kind of measurement... Its honestly very dumbToo precise?![]()
Well since only 1/100th of the ball has to hit the zone.. I guess it makes it easier to call everything a fckin strike nowIs it just me, or have the umps actually been improving on their balls/strikes calls lately? Seems I've been seeing substantially more calls confirmed.
As an engineer in my previous life, I appreciate precision and I actually believe that they can be that precise in real life with the technology available. This is an old post reply but yes.. too much... a tenth of an inch of the baseball hitting the zone.. is.. stupid... it should be at least half of the ball period... I get ya.. Developer of 30 years here.. and appreciate precise in every sense of the word.. but.As an engineer in my previous life, I appreciate precision and I actually believe that they can be that precise in real life with the technology available.
The only major problem I have with the system is that it is focused on a plane above the heart of the plate instead of covering the 3d volume above the whole plate, which is probably what it should be. Much more difficult, though, so I give them that. So now, if one pixel of the ball image interferes with one pixel of the strike zone image, it's a strike.
I'd consider adding 1 more challenge per game, perhaps, but mostly I love it.
