Hopefully Spoon next. Then lets assess where we are at cap wise should we need to make a trade mid season. After that the next big deal is Murphy.

Not a huge fan of this extension. He’s an average to above average player.

However, if coach Macdonald likes it, then I will support it as well

I don't believe MacDonald cares whether he likes the contract or not.

He would still say something like "Glad to have him for the long haul".

Also, considering how much Mafe is making, there is no reason why people should balk at this.

If JS is willing to do this deal, then it's a good deal.

And who knows? Maybe Hall's agent wanted him to get a higher deal but Derrick said "No"?

Maybe JS told him he needs the room to re-sign Spoon (or maybe Hall believed that taking less would increase the chances of retaining Spoon)

Y'all Mafe is making only 6 mil more per year than Hall lets not act like he's making 30 mil a year lol.

Overall this is not my money and I'm not the GM, However I think Hall would have been a 7-9 mil person vs 14mil. I hope he goes out and changes my mind and balls out.

Above average or not may actually be irrelevant. We need to keep a solid younger player at that position. Our other edge's (DLaw - may retire, Nwosu - may be his last year here and Fowler - only a 1 year deal) all play a factor. Can't bank on Ivey, Hubbard, O'Toole to take that next step at this point. One or two of DLaw, Nwosu and Fowler will not be here after next year, maybe all 3. We are going to be looking hard at Edge next offseason but you will need a vet or two to stick around. Hall makes the most sense and to do it now for a reasonable deal instead of wait to where he may walk or command a lot more money is playing with fire.

That's how I look at it.

DLaw makes 8.65 million as a base this year. Saving $6 million is nice when it is used to bring in players like Fowler $5 million).

Money saved is money spent on someone else to help. Hall is definitely worth more than 14mil a year

I think Derick Hall got paid the going rate for an above-average outside linebacker. I think it seems high to us because we have DeMarcus Lawrence at $10 million and Uchenna Nwosu for $9.7 million per year. But we got a great deal for Lawrence because he was coming off an injury at age 33 when he signed his deal.

When you consider that a player like Kwity Paye gets $16 miilion per year, $14 million for Hall doesn't seem like an overpay.

Derek Hall signing came sooner than I thought it would. At 25, he is a still developing fit for the defense.

He dominated in the Super Bowl game. And yet, his very best is yet to unfold. Clearly a core signing.

I recall an article this off-season titled something like "move every team should make" focusing on under the radar moves. I can't remember who wrote it, but they said extend Hall for their Seattle entry
