As of today, May 23, 2026, the Mariners set at 25-28. They had enormously high expectations entering the season, but up to this point, they haven’t quite lived up to the hype.

Now, there’s a long way to go still in the season. Who knows what the future holds, but up to this point, my question is: who is most to blame for the slow start?

Is there a particular player, manager, position coach, front office person, etc who you believe is the crux of the issue? Share your thoughts below.

I voted for Dan Wilson. He just seems incompetent when it comes to setting the lineup, players appear lost and confused, and his routinely poor bullpen decision making continues to blow my mind. I want him gone yesterday.

For instance, Refsnyder batting in the 4 spot, considering how poorly he’s hitting the ball. Why? Just….why? Does he want to lose?

To me, it doesn't make much sense to blame the employee that's following orders. It makes much more sense to blame the boss that's issuing the orders.

Personally, I think Dan is essentially just Dipotos puppet, and just does what he's told to do.

What managerial experience did Dan Wilson bring before being hired by M's? That should give a clue as to what type of manager he would be and why he was hired in the first place.....a "yes" man at his finest.

Gotta be Dipoto. He's been here for over 10 years now. Outside of getting close last season hasn't won us squat.

But it's really hard for me to complain this season because I was down with what he did in the off season. Resigning Naylor and trading for Donovan were some pretty good/logical moves imo that I thought might get us over the hump.

This team is cursed.

I agree with above…thought that the moves going into this season were certainly good enough to get to 88-90 wins, which in this division is usually enough. In that regard I blame Dan so far this season for not making even average in game decisions, and in turn not motivating his players. If it’s Jerry pulling the strings then shame on Dan for taking the job, this will be his only managerial job in the MLB if he’s that big a a puppet/pushover. It’s his resume…

The sustained long term disappointment season after season is all on Jerry and ownership though.

Last year was half luck too. At what point during the season last year were we saying this a World Series team…

I blame Jerry.. he built this roster that is supposed to be greater than the sum of its parts. But all these pieces that only are supposed to have one job are not doing there job.

Last year it was rowdy telez this year it’s refersmokeer and Joe…

Jerry is closing his eyes and throwing darts at balloons

This team is cursed. If they broke the bank for the best combination of management and players their plane would go down after takeoff
