Wow, another I Hate Pete thread. Hard to beleive that, after the team has moved on, some of you are still itching for the opportunity to bash him one more time for whatever pathetic slights or injustices, real or imagined, you feel. Get an effing life, for crissakes.

Overreact much? I'm not bashing Pete, in fact I can't wait for his ROH induction and statue outside the stadium. Simple observations regarding his conspicuous silence after LX and what it may mean are a far cry from hate. Get a grip, hot rod.

Your comments throughout this thread point to a serious case of PDS. It's not enough to win a Super Bowl, your Pete Derangement Syndrome leaves you needing to keep bringing up a coach that you so obviously dislike. Maybe you can't let go of that Marshawn Lynch play, maybe you just can't enjoy a great season, maybe you're just a hater. What's next? Bringing up how Russ can't play QB bc he's too short? Give it a rest bud. The only conspicuous silence we need now is from you.

I wasn't going to post on this but am now..
I loved Pete till that 2nd SB crap ending, afterwards he was never the same,
he stopped following his mantra of "always compete", played favoritism, kept
guys too long at the expense of getting better, brought in bad coaches, kept
barking "We are so close", got in the way of John doing his job ect.
A bunch of years wasted with him in my opinion, I don't hate Pete at all, actually
I'm content not to hear about him at all and don't care what he thinks, I believe
Mac is the better HC but that depends on who you ask and TBF Pete had that
VP of football operations title which I believe put too much on his plate for him.
Anyway; I get the question because Pete stayed for too long, people still want
clues from him.

I’m with Indy. I’ll always love Pete and what he brought here.

However, there’s no denying that the team turned into a mediocre franchise his last five or so years here, even going back to the end of 49 like Indy said.

This team would not have even sniffed the Superbowl if he was still coaching, I have no doubt in my mind. Macdonald was the guy that the franchise needed, but one day, he too will fade out, and we will look for a new coach.

Honestly, the shelf life of an NFL coach is ten years at best. Eventually, their message grows stale, their schemes outdated and the team falls into the rut of being .500. Look at the Steelers with Tomlin, the Ravens with Harbaugh, etc. There’s a limit to how long these guys can go before they inevitably burn out. It’s only natural when you think about how much time they put into their jobs.

I think naming Pete VP was the right move at the time bc it gave him control of the draft, and Pete had a unique knowledge of college players then. Over time, that faded, and yes, changes should have probably been made sooner. But it is so difficult to win a Super Bowl to begin with, there have only been like 5 teams who have won multiple Super Bowls in the past 25 years. MM was the right guy at the right time. We caught lightning in a bottle and everything fell into place.

I think you may be closer to the truth than you know. The trajectory of Pete's attitude and self awareness in the final years could very easily lead him to resenting John and Mike's success only 2 years removed from his ouster. Will be interesting to hear his comments (what he says, doesn't say and how he says it) when someone eventually puts a microphone in his face and asks him about the Hawks.
A lot of the players drafted that won it was under his tenure so that could be his argument. I've no idea how their drafting works but for a while it felt like bad drafted player= Pete, good= John. I've heard John asserted some more control at the end but Pete still had the final say. Pete's downfall was his choice of coordinators in the later years. All stank and it felt like everything had ran its course.

Honestly felt like we never recovered from super bowl 49. The magic/spark went after that. I still think we had a chance in 2015 as well but left it too late against the Panthers after a horrific start to the game and Lynch wasn't right We had some talented teams like in 2019/2020 that probably underachieved. I just felt the belief wasn't there that was there in 2025

I was fine with Pete until the last few years of his "we are so close" jive as many have stated. What really stuck out to me was his leaving press conference when he said to John "It's all on you now" or something like that. It just seemed out of character in my opinion and a shot at John. I don't know, that moment just seemed strange.

I don't agree with your take on Aircrew. He simply started a post and people have responded.

Isn't that what this board is for?

I don't hate PC, he brought us a SB and an all-time defense. Yes he made some mistakes and got away from what made him unique but that conversation isn't allowed here .

So go scrub your muff

I’m going to suggest that everyone post about the subject of the OP, and stop with any personal insults or attacks.

Obviously conversations evolve organically and we drift a bit, but some of y’all are way out of line.

Please stop, as a community we are better than this.

It only takes a moment of thought to disagree without being personal.

But personal is so much more entertaining and reveals so much about both parties, call it educational :)
