Looks to me, judging by this clip, that Beau can move around more quickly than Bradford, and use his hands more effectively.

Much to a lot of chagrin I'll bet Bradford is still the starter week 1, however I can see that changing as the year goes on.

Timing and assignment consistency in the run game grade out among the best in this guard class, with very few missed fits or blown calls on tape.

Sounds like the anti-Bradford, especially if that extends to pass-blocking

I have been reading this forum for 20+ years and registered for the first time today to tell you how stupid this comment is.

Is it partly because I’m the rare combo of Seahawks and Hawkeyes fan? Yes, that’s part of it. But it’s mostly because this is just a stupid comment regardless of fandom.

You’re gonna learn to love Beau Stephens. Drafting an Iowa O-lineman is one of the safest things a GM can do.

Many mock drafts had Stephens going higher. Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times says that there were several mock drafts that had the Seahawks picking him in the third round. Condotta says Macdonald and Schneider were surprised to see him still available in the 5th round, so they decided to go for it and make a trade to get him. Stephens was the Seahawks' first top-30 visit before the draft. Schneider said "there was too much talent there" to pass up.

Ok Beaus mom. Nothing personal. I was just doing the math on a perceived weak draft vs next years predicted stronger deeper draft.

I feel that by the time you get into rounds 4-5 and beyond in any year, the picks just tend to go based on scouting preferences and players who can be developed to fit team needs (with the occasional true diamond in the rough), as all of the polished talent has already been drafted by that point.

In normal years, we typically have draft capital that falls somewhere in between next year’s 12 picks and this year’s 4. We knew 4 picks would be too low and couldn’t find the ideal partner to trade for our 1st rounder, so it makes sense to draw from the abundant draft capital next year to bridge the gap.

The choice to get Stephens seems to be inspired by the hope that he could become an eventual starter. I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t crack the roster and eventually do so. Well worth spending one of 12 picks next year on.

We still have enough picks next year to package some together for mid-season trade(s) this year or in-draft trades next year to move up.

Just to be a little more forthcoming, I’m not close to an every day reader of the forum; I visit it during milestones like every draft, Super Bowl wins, huge trades (ex: Russell Wilson). So I don’t really know “who’s who” on this board except I remember seeing posts by Aros the first time I visited .net - which could have been as far back as 2001 or so if this site existed then. I know I was definitely reading Mariners boards back that far and seeing The Ancient Mariner’s posts.
