Lock should go back to wearing #3 like he did in college and like in the pros before coming here. I don't believe anyone else is currently wearing it.

I think 'they' is just Schneider. I dont see how this moves makes any sense, but for the fact that JS is hell bent on seeing Lock turn into the QB he somehow thinks he can be.
I dont get the logic. You give up draft capital to get Howell, and then you go and re-sign Lock?

That "backup" proved he was a Starting QB last season.
The whole point of him signing a 1-year "Prove it deal" with Minny last season was to prove he can still be a Starter (and he did so) in this league.
Doesn't matter the amount of credit people give the surrounding team he was on.
He still had to prove he can make the throws, the plays, and help the team get the wins.
And he did all that.
He was an actual backup 2 seasons ago.
He should not be viewed as a Backup now unless he proves otherwise.

The freedom and joy of the post Geno era, no one will ruin Schnieder's QB anymore. Geno can not take snaps from the Schneider QBs, it hurt John's feelings and self-esteem to see QBs signed by him holding clipboards behind that career backup Geno Smith.

Again, I find the "boxer wadding" about front office choices in players to be a bit over the top. JS, as the GM, doesn't just willy-nilly sign guys to the roster. The coaching staff expresses their needs-wants-desires and they look over what is available through the draft scouts and vet scouts. There is a process for picking the guys they pick and signing them. I would extrapolate there is "something" the offensive coaching staff likes about Drew Lock. We can spend weeks in conjecture about what that is. Boils down to the front office solidifying the team as best they can before the draft and their higher rated FAs are signed with other teams.
A contract for 2 years for $5 million is a hell of a deal. We only have Howell for this year. And, for the love of all that is Holy, stop thinking we are going to pick a QB from one of the worst QB draft classes in a decade. Y'all's fanboy for some of these young men is utterly ridiculous.

It's a back up and as not good as Lock is he is still way better than waste of space Howell. That trade goes in the trash bucket like many other JS has made...

Well I think you’re on to something there as well. I just think the Giants giving him a 1 year 5mil (with 4.95 guaranteed) in 2024 forced John to trade for Howell. They didn’t like what they saw, so now we get Lock back for two years at 5 mil. If we cut Howell we get 1.1 mil in cap space as his deal has no guarantees. Makes sense financially

Howell was hampered by Grubb just as Geno was. I think Howell ends up being QB2. That being said, I really want Drew Allar next year, but I don't think we will be in a position to get him. Therefore, why not take a chance on Will Howard or Kyle McCord this year. Why is everyone sleeping on Howard? Gruden comps him to Josh Allen. Very raw, but the tools are there.

Just to play devils advocate. There hasn’t really been any options the last few years. Who has turned out even remotely resembling a pro QB? Nobody. Don’t draft a player just to draft unless you feel strongly about them.
I think they like some guys this year BUT the buzz is QBs are starting to fly up boards. Sounds like 3 maybe 4 guys by the end of the 1st now and a run on the rest of the next tier guys at the top of the 2nd. Could just be getting insurance in case that happens.
They were actively trying to develop Howell last year and have Jaren Hall on the PS. They are trying to develop QB’s

I always thought of Jesus as more of a QB than a left guard.
Biggest problem with Jesus at QB is the 12 men on the field thing, actually 13. Which two disciples do you bench?

Peter for being old, Schneider likes them young, but you already knew that.
Thomas, the "Doubting Thomas" for his skepticism, was more suited to .NET than on the field.

2 years 5 mill guys. Why are we freaking out about this? He got less money than most back up QBs.
I never once suffered from a delusion that Lock would be our answer but as a back up and at that money he is a perfectly fine solution.
We actually have a pick this year from Lock being signed last year.
So we got a pick and now we resign him for a very reasonable deal.
Seems like a pretty good move to me.

Who's "freaking out"? Looks like some people don't think he's good. I don't see anyone saying our future is tied to this.
Lock/Howell do some things decently. Howell might have some more upside, Lock is basically who he is at this point. We're probably in trouble if either has to hold down the ship if Darnold goes down for the year. Both are possibly capable if they have to keep it afloat for a game or two depending on the opponent.
