I can't take any of these people seriously who have the Seahawks selecting a wide receiver with the 18th overall pick. You have a defensive minded head coach who probably feels he's really close to making this unit elite. You have a GM who says he hears everybody loud and clear about the offensive line. DK was traded. We get it. That doesn't mean you're using your first overall pick on a receiver. It's just lazy analysis.

Mock draft "experts" always assume teams draft for need, which is generally not true. And on top of that, they usually aren't that tuned in to a team's real needs.

Mike Salk has been whining like a baby all day about the possibility. Then again, that's his thing. I doubt they take one at 18. But this is the Seahawks. Nothing they do can be THAT shocking. If anything, it's more shocking when they just stay put and make an expected pick.

Thank you James for saying what most of us are thinking. It seems crucial that #18 is used on either OL or a true dog for the D. That said, this is John's call and we won't be out of the woods until the pick is made.

I feel like Schneider has made a number of picks that weren't what the fans were expecting at the time. We don't know how he has these players rated. I hope he doesn't just see these picks as positions the way you apparently do.

It was literally just two years ago when Schneider drafted a first-round WR for his defensive-minded head coach, and that was with DK being further developed than JSN is, and Lockett being younger and less injured than Kupp is. And our guys beyond them are underwhelming, to say the least.

At the very least, I think we've seen that he doesn't just go to the draft with a list of needs and says, "OK, this is our biggest need, so we'll draft this position first, then this, etc". I doubt WR will be the first pick, but if he really likes Golden or Ebuka or someone, I don't think it's "moronic" to suggest he might take them.

EDIT: *Kupp. I should know better.

JSN was taken at #20. That was one hell of a draft pick. Taking someone at #18 isn't moronic at all if they like they guy.

I hope they go O Line, D Line or Safety, but it certainly wouldn't be some huge tragedy to get a stud WR at #18.
We just lost DK and Lockett. Sure, plenty of people don't think DK was that great, and that Lockett was nothing special last year, but it IS something they could consider at pick 18.

This teams identity will be defense and the run-game. A strength at IOL is paramount to effectively running the ball and opening up the passing game. Having that potent run-game bolsters time of possession and moves the chains which is the best defense you can have.

JSN was a no-brainer. I felt like he truly was the BPA that year where we took him. Also, we had 2 first round picks which made it that much easier to pull the trigger on BPA. I'm just not feeling it with this wide receiver class. I have a hard time believing BPA will be a receiver. Now someone had mentioned not wanting to take a tight end either. If Tyler Warren is still available by some miracle, I'd be running to the podium. But regular old receiver? Nah, you get one of those in rounds 2-4.

I would hope JS would address the OL at #18 with Zabel as I don't think that's reach at all. If he chooses Egbuka, Golden or McMillan at #18 because Zabel or Booker are gone then I hope he takes Savaiinea at #50 or maybe even Ersery.

I don't think WR is an outrageous pick in the first round. Kupp is over 30 and on a 1 year deal. I see WR and IOL (not in that order) as needs. I am hesitant to make fun of mocks too much after 2003 when I thought Chad Reuter was an idiot for mocking a corner at 5.....and then we drafted Spoon.

Everyone and their mother makes mock drafts nowadays. There's very little stock in it, less than there was 20 years ago.

The same GM took Dee Eskridge with our only non-day 3 pick in 2021 when most did not have WR as a pressing need.

You may not take them seriously, but it's a valid thought that precedent backs up as a possibility.

We hedged the spot with old vets. I see WR as a strong possibility with the first pick - Emeka Egbuka being a top-3 most likely selection for me.
