Summarizes his year with Mac and the rebuilt Seahawks defense.

Interesting talk, didn’t think Gruden, would interview a Seahawks player, much less, one of the Seahawks rising stars!

Anyone still upset Spoon was the pick and not a defensive/offensive lineman?

Spoon is a helluva player!

There were real legit concerns about the alternative to that pick. I'll still take Spoon. I know carter has looked very good, dominant at times but would that have happened here? We will never know. Fun debate. I'll stick with who we have.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking the same thing. Carter, has been dominant! And likely would have been a solid pick for Seattle.

But let’s not take anything away from Spoon! Spoon has also been successful!

Two back to back pro bowl seasons and is a key piece in this defense! Spoon has had a great career this far as well, so, the pick is somewhat justified.

Spoon, we know for a fact, that his Seahawks career is working out, and has been very successful, and we have no reason not to believe it would not continue!

Spoon, still, and has been a solid pick for Seattle!

Very fair post and I am in the same boat.

Considering our weaknesses, I think we probably would have better off taking Carter, but that’s no dig on Spoon. We could have used the Murph pick for a DB or traded back. Please keep in mind that I also thought we should have drafted Mark Sanchez and was sure passing on Rueben Foster would set back the team for years.

Either way, I’m glad Spoon is a Hawk. My biggest concern is future injuries. I know he doesn’t have a history, but considering his style of play and physical build, it’s more of what my friend Isaac Newton keeps telling me about.

Stud DT's are more valuable than stud CB's. Carter should have been the pick, but Spoon was a nice consolation prize.
My thoughts exactly. I really wanted Carter and i thought the character stuff was blown way out of proportion. I do like spoon, but every time I see Carter play well I will always think about how he should be a Seahawk.

I was completely on the Spoon side at the time but its hard not to wonder what a DLine of Williams, Carter, Murphy, Reed etc would have looked like. I still love Spoon and think he's a great player but Carter is a monster too.

I disagree. I don't think it was blown way out of proportion. There was some legit concerns. Most importantly with his work ethic and dedication, which contradicted with our sudden emphasis on looking for some dogs. High character who loved football.

I remember my comment at the time, I said I wanted Carter as much as anyone but if the team wasn't comfortable with the red flags then I'd be ok with their decision. But now I'd take him over Spoon too. I think a good DT is way more valuable than a good db in most cases.

Or since we already would have went dline with Carter maybe we would have went Verse instead of Murphy. That front 7 wouldn't look too shabby either.

Yep awesome point that would be interesting.

I do agree with you as well that the characther stuff wasn't blown out of proportion. I think they were valid worries for sure.

The Rams supposedly REALLY wanted Murphy... or so they would have us believe. Knowing the Rams, they probably leaked it so we would take him instead of Verse. Sneaky bastards.

He's not the most politically-correct person on the planet but I miss Gruden being in the NFL. Coach, color analyst, whatever.

And count me in on Team Spoon. He would have fit right in with the LOB. Carter seems to be working out for the Eagles and that's fine. It's okay for both us and them to have scored on our prospective picks that year.

I don't think MM would've just sat back and let JS pick Murphy if he didn't think he was worth it. MM knows Defense and I'm not sold on the idea of Mike thinking "Oh we better pick him before our division rival does!!!"

I'm on team Spoon. Carter was a huge red flag at the time and it gave off Malik McDowell vibes; would you guys rather complain about hindsight or complain about the Hawks FO not learning their lesson and making the same mistake twice? You can only pick one, and you HAVE to remember that JUST because he worked out for the Eagles (so far, at least), the same outcome isn't guaranteed that he would've worked out here.

Snap percentages ......2023..........2024

Spoon......................74.3%........97.5%
Carter.......................48.5%........79.4%

Versatile and exceptional nickle backs are so very rare.

They make a huge difference.
