I think it's a combination of MM clearly stating his vision for the team and what the team's needs are and JS fully supporting that vision, which is what a good GM does. The best example of this was JS moving up to get Emmanwori. Listening to the press conferences, it was clear that MM...
As you say, the BPA is very subjective. However, if a team's biggest need is a guard who can protect the QB and run block in a wide zone scheme then the BPA was without question Grey Zabel.
Taking a guard with a top 20 pick. Trading UP in the second round to get what is clearly a Mike Macdonald type player at safety. Then, for the first time since Russell Wilson, drafting a QB in the third round who's closest comp is probably Lamar Jackson.
P.S. Before you start breaking out the...
Elijah Arroyo is Noah Fant's replacement. Fant has the second largest cap hit on the team (13.41 mil.), so I expect he will soon be an ex-Seahawk. Last year Klint Kubiak ran 12 personnel 31% and 22 personnel 8% of the time, so having two quality tight ends who can block and catch is critical...
This was not a JS pick. It was an MM pick. My guess is MM saw Emmanwori there in the second and told JS to do what he had to to get him. Emmanwori is the Hawks' version of Kyle Hamilton.
The pick of Zabel makes today fascinating. The team could go in any direction, including double dipping at guard. My prediction is that whatever JS does, it pisses off most of the posters here on dot net.
Should be fun to watch (and read).
Thanks, I appreciate your kind words. My wife and I are cautiously optimistic that this is the year she's finally able to support herself. A couple of years ago she decided she wanted to become a medical coder. She's completing her Associate degree this spring and will take the certification...
Heh. :) It sounds like an old person support group. I'm 66 and my wife and I just had our 38th anniversary. And best of all, we've got a 30 year old daughter and a 20 year old son still living with us! To be fair, my daughter has high functioning autism, so getting her to a point where she's...
True, but keep in mind what most of the draft talking heads were saying about Russell Wilson when he was drafted. If the so called draft annalists were any good they would be a GM for some team.
IIRC, JS has never selected an IOL in the first round. Carpenter ended up playing a lot at guard but was drafted to be a tackle. So no, I don't see us drafting an IOL in the first round.
If I remember correctly, while with Seattle JS has never taken an IOL in the first round. The closest was James Carpenter in 2011 who played mostly guard during his career. However, he was drafted with the intention of playing him at right tackle.
While this is a great draft for RBs, I would be shocked (and pissed) if the Hawks draft one early. It's not a great draft for WRs, so taking one early makes more sense. I'm fine with someone like Booker or Zabel in the first, but JS doesn't draft IOL that early. My guess is that the Hawks go...
