Damn....Rams just traded for Miles Garrett

It just occurred to me that MMac probably has a pretty good understanding of MGarrett since they were in the same division a long time. I'm sure MMac knows more about JBurroughs (because he ran the Ravens' D) but they spent a lot of time preparing for each other and standing on the same field. Maybe that thought is just me grasping at something to alleviate the "what ifs" but seems like Cross will have some brains to add to battle of braun.

What the hell are the Rams doing? Yeah, Garrett is incredible, but Verse was blossoming into an elite player at the same position while being younger and cheaper.

Can't wait until a few years from now with Ty Simpson throwing to Antonio Brown Jr, backed up by a depleted defense because they traded all their picks to either replace or upgrade from their best players.

They mortgaged their future in a 25 year-old Jared Verse for a 30 year-old Myles Garrett. They’re likely to get 4 to 5 years tops out of Garrett.

They are clearly shooting for a two year window, with Stafford and McVay, before having to rebuild the team from scratch

MGarrett is a game changer, but I still profess that both teams are stacked with talent, enough to win a championship this season. The roster won't be the deciding factor. It'll be intangibles/coaching.

Also, it made me chuckle to myself when I thought maybe JS trades a first for Verse and unleashes him against his old team.

It's a scary move on paper. They are, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the off-season champions. How often do the off-season champs actually deliver though?

Verse seemed to be stepping up for the Rams as a young team leader this past season. You can tell he was part of thier heart and soul, i’m sure a lot of his defensive teammates especially the ones that battled with him in the last 2 years, have a sour taste in their mouths with his departure no matter how much better MG is.

Yet, Rams are pretty much at the apex of their expectations to Win The Superbowl or Bust, anything less would be a monumental failure on their part.

And Seahawks yet again are regulated to an afterthought and will be cast aside to disappear within the Shadow of the CoLAssus, but that is a blessing in disguise because it just means they just got to push past their limits with something to prove all over again. Prove they shouldn’t be forgotten about. That they are still here. And they are still like that.

You act like this just didn't slam the windows shut on the Niners. If the Rams are a power house for the next couple years that will mean bye, bye to players like Williams, Bosa, CMC, Kittle, and more. It could be awhile before the Niners find themselves above water again in this division.

I’m afraid the Niners are going to be pretty damn good as well.

It's a good move for the Rams on paper, but these huge star acquisitions rarely work out as good as people think they will. It's never about one player. The Packers weren't transformed by acquiring Micah Parsons, even before he got hurt.

The Rams also traded a player that Terron Armstead said was one of the best players he had ever faced. He said: "That young boy Jared Verse? I'm cool. I'm good I never gotta see that man again... Bull rush different. Dawg, it's different. You know that it's coming. You brace yourself. He's different. Jared Verse is different. He will be a Defensive Player of the Year one of these days. Mark my words."

Verse was also a team leader and seen as the team spark plug. Other players rallied around him. It's very difficult to replace a personality like that. McVay did it before when he got rid of Ernest Jones. Most coaches will keep guys like that for their leadership alone. Not sure what McVay is thinking.

Getting Myles Garrett is definitely a positive for the Rams, but they did lose a lot in the process.

Garrett is the Jerrry Rice of DEs. He is on pace, in the next few years, of being in top-3 leaders in career sacks.

A counter move the Seahawks could make to the Rams trading for Garrett, would be to trade for Titans DT Jeffery Simmons. There was talk about him possibly be traded last year. So if the Titans continue their losing ways, I could see Simmons being available for trade before the trade deadline. Simmons is 28 years old, and is a 3-time All-Pro player. He is dominate as run defender and pass rusher (for DT), he has 42.5 career sacks. Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy, and Jeffery Simmons all on the same defensive line would be insane!

Yes, these two things are just not the same. The Seahawks have a young, loaded roster and 12 picks in next year's loaded draft. They're set up to be contenders for years. The 49ers probably start their rebuild next year (and is that something Shanahan wants to stick around for?)

Garrett is certainly better, but not so much better that I'm giving up a young star at that same position, plus the draft picks and salary difference. It's not easy to measure the overall net effect for that reason. If the trade involved a different position, they could make the argument that "we're going double down on DL at the expense of our WR room, our OL, etc. That's how we're going to win." In this case, they're strengthening their DL while weakening their DL, and they're projecting that the delta is worth all that they gave up.
