I was actually happy when I saw this. They are tying up a lot of money into a old declining player at a prime position. He should hit his cliff any moment. But i've also said that about Derrick Henry each of the last 4 years when I pass over him in fantasy football.

They have so much money sunk in to that dude! But it's amazing that a guy drafted in the same draft as Okung is still playing.

Still, I appreciate Russell Okung, some of those injuries were on purpose by opposing players who should have been ejected. But it was an NFCE team, the Eagles, vs the Seahawks, so we knew the refs would ignore it.

They deserve to be replaced.

I mean they are actually SAVING money on this deal vs the cap. 20 Mil this year. Even if he's not the same player, he was due to be like 37 mil on the cap even if he wasn't on the roster.

We'll see. There is still 33+mil in previous pro rated signing bonus yet to be written off in addition to the new contract numbers. We'll just have to wait for published details of the new structure/cap numbers. Kicking the can down the road a bit. But, clearly there wasn't a viable plan B alternative.

Apparently he's getting an extension, a pay rise, and future guarantees. 🤨 Congrats to Williams. Tip of the cap to @Marvin49. I hope everyone's happy with the deal. Williams is a good/great player, but i'm glad he's on another team with that deal.

He's not getting a pay raise.

In fact his cap number drops by 20 mil this year.

What he did get was another year and more guaranteed $$$.

He was going to get $30.3M this year. Now he's going to get $33.02M this year. That's a pay rise. I'm surprised at this. Some, (including me), thought the 49ers were looking for a decrease. Yes, he also has guaranteed money next year. I'm not concerned about his cap number. I'm fine with teams delaying cap accountancy - provided they don't take it to extremes. IE do something cap-wise that will damage the team/sport in future years or prevent them from being under a decreasing cap should there be a covid or similar financial issue. (Looking at you Eagles).

Dudes broke lol
Is that correct , 46.5 mil in dead cap from '28 to 2030
They will have to cut him in '27 but he's going to get worse all the way to the bank , wish i could get worse and make more 😁
🤮🥵🫣
gonna be fun to watch now if only FTR could manage their cap that way with players on their downside

Since they don't have a cap, doesn't really matter.
I purely want to say this to tick you off ;) :ROFLMAO: but they currently have the most cap space in the league with the Williams restructure lol

https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space

they will have to carry most of it over into next year though do to the escalating salaries of Purdy, Bosa et al (see 2027 and 2028)
