Hmm so when Seattle gets a team again all the division titles, retired numbers, and 79 title won't be displayed on OKC's wiki anymore?
Correct. Seattle has a deal in place that it gets returned and can retired guys like Kemps numbers too. The NBA trophy and banner never left Seattle. Both are at the MOHAI museum. Its the most unimpressive trophy out there for pro sports. Its even rusted.

Personally the Sonics I know, will never be associated with these usurpers who are calling themselves the Sonics. The chain of custody has been broken, broken for over 20 years and just cannot be unbroken. Sonics should be preserved laid to rest as part of Seattle's long history whilst a new chapter in her history begins.

I don't know about other expansion teams. frankly, don't care to, it s just how I feel.

just a thought though, say we win the championship in our first years.. will they say the Sonics have waited and endured for over 50 years to bring in another championship team?

lol, you know in the end, I don't care, I did love the old Sonics as at that time they were the only sports team here in Seattle and I liked the product. I've watched a game.. part of the game and frankly, I don't care for it and won't follow it if it's here. That said, that's what I'm saying now.. who really knows.
You just know Kemp, Payton, Karl and all will be shown everywhere in that arena for that first season to re-establish the lineage. Number retirement ceremonies, probably multiple throwback jersies from different eras and maybe one new one to set the here and now. Probably a 40 year old Durant playing for them. I think it will be mixed response for the first few years, especially as they'll likely suck but people will show up for the novelty. Once the team gets good though I think people will fall in line with new stars and all.

I do think this is a good basketball market when owners aren't being assholes. You saw similar with the seahawks with bad owners and look at them now.

Yeah, that is going to be a blast reliving some of the past and seeing the many many players and coaches that will come out to celebrate the return of the Sonics! Many of which have refused to be associated with OKC much if at all. I just wish they would have done this a few years earlier so that Lenny Wilkens could have seen them back and been properly honored before his death.

Wikipedia isn’t a legal entity
Right but usually it's legit when it comes to listing a pro sports franchises titles, etc. I mean, as of right now OKC has the 79' title wherever you look. I do NOT want the Sonics back if we ain't getting *everything* back.

Wikipedia is not an official website. Anyone can contribute to it, and outside of decency and other forms of literary etiquette, there's not a lot of regulation or oversight. Come back when you see something like that on OKC Thunder or the NBA's official website.

After the Sonics got stolen, the NBA became just another 'extra' sport to me. In the same category as soccer, WNBA, hockey, college hoops, etc. Don't give a rat's ass. I don't think that's going to change, as I have the ability to hold a grudge forever. F the NBA.

I know. I already explained my reasoning for bringing up wiki. There actually is a lot of oversight on pro sports franchises when it comes to listing titles. It's not something that is constantly changed by people. If Seattle officially got the 79 title back it would be taken off OKC's wiki and stay off.

I just can't watch the NBA anymore it's just not the same as it use to be. The whole gathering step, let's call it what it is traveling. I'm happy they maybe coming back but the game isn't the same.

The NBA game is awful right now but I'll be elated to have a team again -- even if it shares little resemblance to my childhood and younger years. It does mean that my kids get to enjoy a home team again.

I’m approaching 60 I still remember the 79’ title I was in junior high at the time. Gus Williams, DJ, JJ, Jack Sikma, Paul Silas, Lonnie Shelton. Should’ve won the 78’ title the year before but at least they got a chip in the heyday of the NBA. As soon as the ABA folded I was in like Flynn

Yeah, I actually went to one of those playoff games vs. the Bullets. It was held in the Kingdome. But I can't remember if it was the '79 season or the year before when they were in the finals and lost.

I'm hoping that we eventually get a team as there's a lot of people out there that are still NBA fans. But it's going to be difficult for me to get that feeling back.

The "Seattle Supersonics" name has been legally retained since they left in 2008.
I still find it funny that they are named after a Boeing project that massively failed and almost decimated the city's economy due to it.
