Something about Friday’s report by ESPN that the Seattle Seahawks will be put up for sale after their Super Bowl 60 matchup with the New England Patriots doesn’t sit right with Seattle Sports’ Brock Huard.

And it has everything to do with who the Seahawks are playing for the championship in just nine days.

Huard also believes that if the Patriots are indeed trying to distract the Seahawks ahead of the Super Bowl, it won’t work.

“I have no doubt the Seahawks won’t be distracted,” he said, “and if anything this will be used as fuel to fight the ‘Patriot Way.'”

Shortly after Friday’s report, a spokesperson for the Paul G. Allen Trust – which has served as the ownership of the Seahawks following the death of owner Paul Allen in 2018 – responded with a statement that pushed back.

“We don’t comment on rumors or speculation, and the team is not for sale,” the spokesperson said, per NFL insider Ian Rapoport. “We’ve already said that will change at some point per Paul’s wishes, but I have no news to share. Our focus right now is winning the Super Bowl and completing the sale of the Portland Trail Blazers in the coming months.”

This seems like a huge stretch to assume. If I'm going to buy into this conspiracy theory, I need something less flimsy than "this feels like something the Patriots would do".

I'm as frustrated as anyone when the media makes things up, because it discredits everyone, but I'm not any less annoyed with those who scream "fake news!" "hoax!" just because they don't like the content being reported.

As far as I recall, Henderson doesn't really have a history of making things up. That doesn't mean his sources aren't incorrect or he isn't being played by someone, but it doesn't make sense to me that a Seahawks reporter would feel the need to invent a story at a time when they're not struggling for content. The team is in the Super Bowl. I guess we don't really know. There are currently two reports that do not even contradict. One report is claiming that the Seahawks are set to be sold after the Super Bowl. Then we have the Allen Estate coming out and saying the team is not for sale. If that comment had been an impromptu thing during an interview I wouldn't think anything of it, but they arent really even denying what the report is claiming. That might mean something.

Regardless, none of this should be a distraction to the team. They're all aware the current ownership situation is not permanent.

I was seeing this as a comment on the Patriot culture. Many people don't like the Patriots ... and there are plenty of reasons. If they got caught for Deflate-gate and Spy-gate, it's safe (to me) to assume there may be other attempts to break the rules that weren't public. The way the organization reacted after getting caught basically ensures that to be true, "It's not a big deal. Everyone does it that can get away with it"....(my summary). In addition, pushing the boundary on what's outside the rules has also been common practice: delay of game/false start to use clock at end of game. So this press "leak" falls right in line with this culture and common practice. No other single team has been so notably on the wrong side of immoral practice with the exception of Snyder led Washington Team. So, my point is that Belichik was a huge part of the culture. He promoted it, even required it. The culture lives on and the result of the rest of the world disapproving of said Patriot culture is that Belichik isn't (at this point anyway) a first-rounder. I endorse that result. Of course all of the above is my opinion. I'm also not trying to convince anyone of anything. You do you. I'm just explaining my previous poorly detailed post.
