You think Chase would like to come on over here to have a small "chat" with the Seahawks Coaches? (ie Intel) ;)
I was thinking the same. Assistant with little input to the game plans, but lots of input on McVay’s mindset on hawk preparation.

When you're 16 weeks into a season, and you fire a coach almost immediately after an emotionally charged loss to a division rival that would have all but guaranteed your team the #1 seed, it feels like scapegoating.

When your defense allows an opponent to overcome a 16 point deficit with 8 minutes left in the game, something that had only been done against your team once in franchise history, and in the process allows 24 points in the second half/OT (removed the special teams TD there of course), and also allows three 2 point conversions, and you give the special teams coach the boot, that feels like scapegoating.

When your offense has to punt 4 times in the 4th quarter, and even on the FG miss fails to get closer than a 48 yard attempt (makeable but challenging), and you fire your special teams coach, that feels like scapegoating.

When every unit on the team fails (despite 37 points for the offense, I'd argue that 4 punts in the 4th quarter qualifies as a failure for that unit), and you single out one unit, it's practically the definition of scapegoating.

To be clear, we don't know what conversations have been had over the year between McVay and their ST coach, since there have been multiple issues over the season. I'm not saying a coach shouldn't be held accountable for his unit's lack of performance. Under similar circumstance our offensive coach was fired last year....AFTER the season. Firing the ST coach now, under these circumstances, has the FEEL of scapegoating to an outside observer. It looks like McVay was so pissed about the loss that he just had to find someone to blame - and he picked the guy whose unit had one bad failure instead of the units that had multiple failures. Yep. Looks like scapegoating to me.
I'm like Roy looking for a lie.

I was reading where the SP teams was a factor in all of the Rams losses this year.. I'd fire his butt as well..like we should have fired, that OL coach we had.

Maybe he’ll go hire a Pop Warner coach that can help with picking up loose balls.

I understand firing the guy. Their special teams have under performed all year. I only question the timing . This move going to turn things around this late in the year ? Won't the interim guy just say " kick it that way " like the fired guy ? Seems late to implement anything new and expect the players to get comfortable with it. Just seems an off season move to me.

Devil’s advocate here.

Think about how many times over the last 10 or so years we were calling for something similar.

Sure many times it was in jest, but many times it wasn’t.

How much frustration have we suffered though because Pete WOULD NOT make a move like this?

Idk if this will help or hurt the Rams, but sometimes leadership just has to make a change.
I’m 50/50 on this particular situation but I certainly enjoy the fact that it appears the Seahawks forced his hand.

Eff the rams, and I now hope special teams loses the game for him again (should we meet again this season)
And hopefully they crap their pants. That would be so cool.

They get their contract paid out. Not quite the same as a normal firing.
I doubt 10-year playing veteran and multi-millionaire former ST coach Chase Blackburn was overly concerned about potentially losing 2 coaching game-cheques.

I wasn't really talking about the financial aspect of it. Going from about to enter the playoffs with all of your gang to watching football from your couch on Christmas because your punkass head coach needed a target for his postgame tantrum in front of all your family and friends has to sting. It almost feels personal from the outside looking in.

I'm sure you're right. But there's much colder ways to treat (multi) millionaires than doing it financially. McHoecake just chose one of them. I REALLY hope this backfires in the absolute WORST way possible. Kickoff TD. Blocked PAT and a fumbled returned for a TD in the same half type shit. Just so I can see his rat face squirm in the press conference when the inevitable is asked.

The Rams have four losses this year. Just four. This is scapegoating.
There were a few fans who wanted Blackburn gone last offseason. Most fans wanted a change at long-snapper and K early this season when the problems were obvious. Blackburn didn't make changes and eventually McVay was forced to make changes. Pretty much the entire fan base thought Blackburn would be leaving in the next offseason. It got expedited, and the fan base is overwhelming glad that it did. The only disappointment with the firing is that LB and 'ST demon' Troy Reeder didn't go at the same time.

Speaking of finances, I heard on the radio that the Seahawks are paying around 5 times as much for their ST players than the Lambs are. Granted, that kind of comparison is kind of hard to make, but when you have scrubs playing ST, you are likely to do worse against a team that uses better players.

Agreed.

To be fair as well, ST was something they were struggling with all year. They’re ranked near the bottom in most ST categories.

But….I can’t see that magically getting better right now. Dudes assistant took over. Perhaps that gives him more insight as to what they’re doing wrong.

Then again, how hard is being a ST coach? I’m not knocking the coaches who do it. It’s an important role. But, when it comes to Xs and Os, it’s not like it’s the most intricate aspect of the game. That certainly leads me to believe that it’s mostly player based and it’s not going to magically change with this firing.

Scapegoat indeed.

It is pretty late in the season for a firing and replacing of such a coach for a playoff bound team. There is that.
Says who? Like, can you point to objective evidence somewhere that indicates it's a bad idea?

@Torc - Adam Schefter also said special teams blunders have played a role in three of the Rams' four losses this season.
