Number 2 in scoring defense through 3 games I know it’s early but this is the defense we thought we would have and do. IMG 0142

...problem is that it's a small advantage when the rest of the NFCW is also playing real D. The difference in points with SF is less than 1/game. Obviously it's a good start and better than being at the bottom of the list, but (in my opinion) the D could start catching INTs and falling on fumbles.... They'll need to get better than 1pt/game over SF to make up for the early loss. I'm not disagreeing with the sentiment of the OP, but this D has to improve further and faster than the rest of the division or the NFCW banner won't end up in Seattle.

Buuuut, when combined with the following

IMG 0238

We are 15 points ahead of the 11th place Rams in offensive scoring, and sitting pretty, as the only NFL team in the top 5 in scoring offense and defense. (Rams are 14th in points allowed by defense, BTW)

And this….

IMG 0233

We are second in point differential, and ten points ahead of the third place Bills. Our NFC West opponents are clustered at 12, 13, and 14, and our point differential lead over them is more than 4 TDs, at 29, 30, and 31 points over the Rams, Cards, and Niners respectively.

I would say our defense is more than adequate to the task at hand, and our team is leagues ahead of the rest of the West. I fully expect both sides of the ball to improve as the season wears on. Of course, until the games are played, we won't know.

Tonight should be a good test.

And, lest we forget…

Not sure if this is the best metric for special teams, but it’s what I could find on ESPN, and I’ll take it. Special teams have been phenomenal for us this year.

Spot on and in agreement. This team is incredibly balanced
