If I remember correctly, while with Seattle JS has never taken an IOL in the first round. The closest was James Carpenter in 2011 who played mostly guard during his career. However, he was drafted with the intention of playing him at right tackle.
I didn't crunch the #'s, but that sounds right statistically. I think IOL is probably near the bottom % of 1st round picks across the league (obviously excluding K&P). Very few have the field-tilting capabilities Hutch had.

Agreed, I think IOL are the least taken position in the first round. Like running backs should be.

Signed with Browns per Jordan Schultz. The Browns do have 2 veteran Guards though maybe for trade. Bitonio and Teller. Teller is better now but he is also the one that landed the cheap shot on Uchenna last preseason

Maybe we can’t sign interior offensive lineman because they feel like they will be underrated here

You don’t think Schneider‘a comment was not heard loud and clear by every interior lineman across the league

Sounds like grasping for straws to be honest

Undoubtedly this will be blamed on JS, even though the whole story about this non-signing is unknown. JS needs magic dust to make these players want to stay.

Out of consistency though the blame will be put on JS after all he’s failed to keep any of the OLine players he wanted.

I seriously doubt it. I have not heard that comment mentioned a single time outside of Seattle boards. I don't think anyone around the league really cares. He didn't say anything all that shocking anyway.

He didn't say that were overrated, he said they were overpaid (and it wasn't even that black and white). If they're given a contract they feel is not underpaying them, then what they have to complain about? It's not like Schneider is going to encourage the coaches to not play guards, or like he's going to exclude them from outside team functions.

Exactly. The internet telephone game is trying to turn it into "overrated", so thanks for keeping things centered there.

Jenkins has position flexibility so the fact that he left Seattle without an offer he was willing to entertain suggests he was low balled by JS.

Fixed above:

And that’s a stretch with little known facts. I think it’s entirely possible that JS offered a reasonable deal for the situation, assuming he definitely wanted him. I’m ok with not chasing an oft injured prospect wanting a normal contract due to a limited market.

No idea if any of this is close to accurate.

I will say straight up if a player visits and you have a need and they leave..yeah they were probably low balled an offer. Where there is smoke there is fire.

That’s not at all what that suggests. The people that jump to conclusions with nothing to back it up, no reports, no details are on their own level.

You may end up being right but to say that right now?

If anything, based off reports, this suggests he doesn’t fit the love of the game MM wants. Unwilling to play through injuries. Thats speculation but at least there’s credible sources to substantiate that may have come in to play here.

They brought him in, did their due diligence, for one reason or another it didn’t work out. It’s ok to not go off the deep end after every little thing. At the end of the day he’s not a Seahawks, move on.

I give Schneider a C thus far this off-season

"A" for moving on from GeNO and DK and getting what he could for those guys while they're still worth something. Bringing in Kupp was good too.

"F" for continuing to be an ass hat in regard to the IOL. I know, I know. "He tried." The bottom line is he didn't get it done. He's not going to be able to draft his way out of this mess either. Not with his eye (or lack thereof) for IOL talent. This is what so many people feared would happen.

Final grade C. Just another middling John Schneider-assembled football team.

And he left for the Browns...new low for us.
And they have established veterans in front of him. Enough said.

Lets be real maybe the Browns move on from one of those starters and Jenkins sees a chance to compete for a starting spot. But right now on paper he is a backup.
