I saw that news a little earlier. Gets the Hawks out of the red with just the increase March 12th.

As far as Geno, I don't think there was any question of if they could keep him. I think the question was more of if they should or not. They likely will mess around with his deal to free up some current cap space.

Pretty sure they were gonna figure out how to keep Geno around regardless of this announcement. It seems a lot of folks around here screaming about the cap weren't counting on this extra cap space appearing. 🤷‍♂️

There will still be some finagling as they figure out how to extend Jones IV and DK, etc, but we're not as bad off cap-wise as many nay-sayers were making us out to be. Now the real figuring gets started.

Very true. The other part is yes Geno today is making $44.5 million for 2025. When they extend him in the next couple of weeks it lowers his 2025 cap to between $26 and $30 million. Can get out of his deal whenever. You save $16 million roughly for next year and you can still groom the future QB along with sign any players you need to. The Pro's to keeping Geno far outweigh the cons.

We were projected, depending on what moves they made to clear cap, about $60 million under . If they make those same moves we can likely be about $85 million under. Those moves are extend Geno and DK. Cut Lockett, Dre, Jenkins, both Fants. Restructure Robertson-Harris, Uchenna. and a couple other minor less significant moves.

The cap situation is totally fine to do anything and everything the fans have been demanding. Today is vastly different than what it looks like in 3 weeks when it matters.

A chess game going on right now. Schneider was to cut Geno, until the Raiders hired Carroll. Knowing how much Pete loved him some Geno, Schneider is holding Geno and baiting for some draft picks.

While nothing is off the table this time of year, I'd file this under unlikely but not impossible.

I personally think if Seattle moves on from Geno, which they could….rookie QBs have come in and proven they can play immediately and Seattle would save even more salary by moving on. I’m not saying they will all play like rookie Jayden Daniels, no, never, but, they might be serviceable, and enough of a justification for them to move on and add resources and additional cap space with other areas. If Mac believes in Geno, which he has publically said he wants him back, then, do it, stick to your convictions, and extend Geno! Am I advocating for Geno for another 3 years, maybe not, but if they have a plan to draft their apparent successor for Geno, this year or next year or even 2027 (head coaches shouldn’t bank on coaching more than a year at a time) then run it with Geno and have the next in line franchise QB learn until this toilet paper strong offensive line gets a lot better!

I completely agree. I know it sounds like I advocate for Geno forever. I don't. From a big picture standpoint restructuring Geno makes the most sense. I still want that QB drafted. I still want to compete and may the best man win whether that's 2025 or 2027. It's a fine line on how to treat your players because of the message it sends to the rest of your organization. Now let's say they draft Jaxson Dart gets picked in the 2nd and he comes in and flat out beats Geno this offseason that's a different story. It's so much more than just black and white that fans don't get to see that side of things. Restructuring Geno and cutting him doesn't save that much of a difference. Another thing to keep in mind is there's a timetable on when things needs to be done. The draft isn't until late April. Geno's contract becomes guaranteed by mid-March. A decision on him needs to be made long before we even have a chance to draft a replacement and days after FA even starts. That's why it makes far more business sense to extend him because it has to be done by March if we want his cap lowered for 2025. Otherwise you have to cut him by then and then we are scrambling for a QB and that's not where you want to be.

I would have loved to have moved on Geno years ago but the sad fact is that's not where we're at today. It just hasn't happened for a variety of reasons.

The cap is a lot messier than people think it is. I'd be happy with a serviceable QB but by the time a decision on Geno needs to be made all we will have is Howell and Hall and I'm not very confident in either one right now.

I've never been a Geno fan, never will. But when I look at it from the business side and not the fan side it paints a much different picture.
