D seemed fine to me - but they sure softened up/got gassed in the 4th quarter there.

I was multitasking watching the game - but seems like when the Tards went uptempo for the close - we just couldn't keep up.

Their run game came alive at the end of the game for sure.

Not entirely sure how to fix that! Alots of that's just 'football' -

2 mins on the clock, 2 TDs required - they ran themselves out of time and scored 0. The perfect defensive drive needed at that moment.

I think Dre faked a hand injury, so they could get some rest. He was back in a couple plays later.

Meh...garbage time.
This. Not only garbage time, but they were in control of that entire game after their first score. They were allowing stuff in front of them since the Cards had no timeouts. It eats up a lot of clock. And in the end, they didn't let them score to make it LOOK like a close game. I'm probably in the minority, but at no point did I think they were gonna' come back. Not even on the drive that resulted in the doink. I expected us to keep them out of the end zone. This was the Hawks game, all day. Esp. once they went up 14.
If it was last year's defense? I would be very worried 😱🍺✌️

It also didn't help that the O had a few three and outs or only one first down in that time so the D was on the field more in the second half than the first. Key is they closed it out and not much worrying at all.

I normally hate it but it made sense when they did it. Macdonald thankfully is a little more aggressive than most coaches in this regard.

I agree on the final Cards drive but earlier in the 4th quarter we had the same soft defense out there but with too much time. I can’t say if they were tired or if it was scheme or both but they definitely weren’t very aggressive.

Thankfully the offense finally put that long drive together eating the clock. That gave the defense some rest and even though they were allowing stuff in the middle they were aggressive in getting to the ball. I believe that offensive drive is what got them the energy to do that.

We definitely need our offense to put together more clock eaters. If we can do a few per game our defense can stay fresh and play the aggressive style we’ve been enjoying this past month

Fact! Our defensive play toward the end is why I said they became softer. But Geno put together a perfect drive to lock up the win so our D ended up not having to re-rev their engines and it worked out perfectly. Kudos to our O Line for putting together a sound game. Their improvement over the past couple weeks is not only noticeable, it is playing winning football. We can still improve on ST but it looks to me like they're working on that too. We are getting better every week. Now if only we can avoid that backward step in the improvement process.

If there was any truth to players being gassed...wouldn't a lot of that fall on our old nemesis...the strength and conditioning coach?

Out of gas???? If do, we have a big problem! In this game, Hawks won the time of procession, no reason for defense to run out of gas.
