49ers fear torn ACL for WR Aiyuk, Shanahan says
The 49ers fear that wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk suffered a torn ACL during Sunday's loss to the Chiefs, according to coach Kyle Shanahan. He will undergo further testing to confirm.
Yeah, hate to see anyone get injured.Just another punch to the nuts for Niner fans this year.
Yeah, hate to see anyone get injured.
I would rather see the 49ers crumple under the weight of their own hubris.
I think they turn it around if CMC returns healthy and Pearsall can be an effective NFL WR. Also, regardless of his speed, Jennings sure seems to find a way to get open and make big catches. I also think yesterday's game is different with a healthy Deebo Samuels. He may not be an elite WR, but he's a real difference maker with his rushing and his yards after the catch. Losing Aiyuk by itself isn't a killer--like you said, he hasn't been that effective this year anyway.Hoping they can turn it around this year, but my head is telling me they are pointed toward a down post SB loss season.
I don't think he's laughing at the player for being hurt, but is laughing at the franchise? That sucks. Niners or not, laughing at someone being injured. Come on, Frodo. Nothing funny about a guy being lost for the season.
The John Lynch way. They signed a hurt bum to a lucrative deal lmao
Consider the source. We're talking about a guy that has an obsession with packing fudge.Obviously, as a Hawks fan, you're glad one of their best players won't play. But laughing at injury is tacky af.
So....... What about wishing for a niner to get shot ?I can't believe the attitude among some here is to laugh at this. There are so many reasons it's not in the least bit funny.
First and foremost, Aiyuk is a human being, and a major injury like that in a human being isn't funny.
I guess I can imagine a situation in which somebody who tortured people by inflicting such injuries suffers one himself could be funny in the way cosmic justice can be. Or maybe somebody who laughed about or put down people with such injuries then getting one himself, but he'd have had to really be a jerk about it frequently and very publicly. Aiyuk, like the various other important 49ers players who can't play now, does not meet those criteria.
Those making the stupid comments laughing at Aiyuk's injury and the 49ers' situation as a result of it (please note that I said "stupid comments," and did not refer to the posters themselves as stupid) are doing it because, as far as I can tell, Aiyuk is a really good player on a team they don't like.
For what it's worth, I really enjoyed seeing Bosa crying after the first time the 49ers lost a Super Bowl they were winning against the Chiefs. On the other hand, I would not derive enjoyment from seeing Bosa out with an injury, much less crying in physical pain because of it. See the difference?
But there's more than just that. Think about how many times the Seahawks were screwed by one or more major injuries.
I find the more trollish 49er-fan idiots (like pretty much all of the 49er fans that constantly troll the Seahawks fan site with the stupid-ass name that's part of SB Nation) annoying AF, and when I talk about how great my experience with Vikings fans has been, I always use those idiot 49er-fan trolls as my example to provide a contrast to the Vikings fans I've seen engaging with Seahawks fans around the time of a Seahawks-Vikings game. But given how many people are 49er fans, I'm sure all of them are not like those idiots. In fact, some of the 49er fans we see here tend to be less trollish and make a decent contribution around here sometimes. I've "liked" multiple comments from two of them in particular. They're still fans of a major division rival, the one that's been strongest for the last several years, and they still trash talk us, but they're not like the idiots constantly trolling that other Seahawks fan site. And trash talk is part of the fun. I tend to limit my own, but I recognize that it's part of the fun, and I do enjoy seeing it when it's done right.
49ers fans are football fans, and I think we ought to remember to think of them in terms of that common ground and not just in terms of the random "you're-rooting-for-laundry" choices of favorite teams that separate us. And imagine how we'd have felt if, say, the Seahawks had started the 2013 season with major injuries to Lynch, Baldwin, Unger, Mebane, Avril, Wagner, Sherman, and Chancellor.
I've only been to the Pacific Northwest once, and it was specifically to see my first Seahawks home game after having been a fan for more 43 years (at the time; now it's over 48 years), and nobody in my immediate family was from that region, so my choice of the Seahawks wasn't geographic. I know most people choose their favorite teams by geographic proximity, but even as a little kid, I didn't like following the herd in everything, so even though I grew up in Maine, I was never a fan of the Patriots, nor of the Red Sox, Celtics, nor the Bruins back when I was even slightly interested in hockey (I did really like and root for the Maine Mariners AHL club, though).
In fact, I can say I "root for laundry" more than a lot of you, because I'm pretty sure it was the cool uniforms I'd never seen before that caught my eye one day in August of '76 when I saw them on whatever my dad was watching on TV at our home in Maine. I asked my dad who that team was, and he told me it was a new team called the Seattle Seahawks that was coming into the league. I decided on the spot it was my team, the first time I chose a favorite sports team in my life. So I recognize that I could have been a 49er fan or a fan of pretty much any other team around at that time (except the Raiders, who openly and proudly played dirty and had fans who supported that).
My point about other teams' fans, including fans of arch-rivals who troll us is that it's not hard for me to put myself in their shoes (I wish they'd used foot powder or Odor Eaters or something, though). I can imagine the Seahawks having much of their cap tied up in top-of-the-league players, and then those players being unable to play. I would find nothing at all funny about that, and I would think anyone laughing at it was an insufferable bag of $#!+. So when it's the 49ers and not the Seahawks that are in that situation, I still don't think there's anything funny about it.
I want the Seahawks to beat the 49ers, but I want them to beat the 49ers due to better game planning and better execution on the field, not because several of the most important players from the 49ers' starting lineup are injured.
And in addition to all those reasons, a rivalry is just better when both teams are good. Remember 2012-2013? The Seahawks-49ers rivalry was the best thing in U.S. pro sports.
