The Patriots are absolute trash. If anything, it's offensive that nobody has us winning by more than 11, and eight of ten picked it as a one-score game.

Their D played very well against the Bengals

I don't put a ton of stock in week 1, and the Bengals have typically struggled out of the gates under Taylor anyway.

2023: L 24-3 @ Cleveland. Burrow threw for 82 yards.
2022: L 23-20 in OT vs Pittsburgh, with Trubisky starting for PIT and TJ Watt leaving hurt. Burrow threw four picks.
2021: W 27-24 in OT vs Minnesota. Only week 1 win in this stretch. Vikings finished season 8-9.
2020: L 16-13 vs Chargers. Chargers were starting Tyrod Taylor. Burrow had 193 passing yards with no TDs and 1 INT
2019: L 21-20 @ Seattle. Andy Dalton lit us up like a Christmas tree (418 passing) and I hope whoever it was that let John Freakin' Ross go 7-158-2 was subsequently benched/released/executed. Ross scored only twice the entire rest of his career, and the Bengals would finish that season 2-14.

This is an obvious trap game. Bengals fell for it, and so shall we
Bengals didn't fall for a trap. The Bengals aren't going to be good.

The fact of the matter is, Cincinatti is overrated, and New England is probably (a little?) underrated, so people got surprised by a result that shouldn't have been that surprising.

Cincinatti last year was an average-at-best offense with a bad defense. New England had, yes, the worst offense in the league but they had a top 5 defense. They had something they were legitimately good at and it appears they will be again.

And Cincinatti achieved their average-ish quality on offense with Jake Browning finishing the year, who actually performed better than Burrow last season. The idea was that Cincinatti was so close (since they had a decent record) that getting 'Joe Cool' back was going to put them back up top. Only if they are getting the same Burrow who played last year (and it looks like they have), that's probably a slight downgrade.

This team wasn't really 'good' at anything last year and they just downgraded at QB. Is it a big surprise that they might lose to an elite level defense?

On the Seahawks side though, here is why I don't buy the trap storyline: We had a very slow start on offense. We gave up two safeties. There is no way we're going into this game being complacent right now.

Many of us were saying that about the Broncos last week

Even though the Bengals fumbled on the 1-yard line and also had a muffed punt, that still was a hell of a win for the Pats on the road.

I think it should be a good battle. This team isn't going to take anyone lightly, imo.

Meh. Has no impact on the game. Even if they DO lose, it certainly has nothing to do with predictions. Hawks are a better team. Thus, people picking them to win.
