PFF ranks Shane Waldron 6th best OC

This might be proof that PFF doesn't know what it's talking about. It just ranked the top 10 offensive coordinators in the NFL and put Waldron at number 6, giving him credit for Geno Smith's transformation.

Since there are no metrics for evaluating an OC, this seems to be outside their area of expertise.

PFF needs to do a better job with research, Geno’s improvement was all Dave Canales he than goes to Tampa Bay and Baker Mayfield has one of his best seasons

Sixth feels too high, but our fanbase is harsh on Waldron. Where you rank him depends on A) how much value you place on his development of Geno and B) how much you think our issues were outside his control. For example, we had one of the least talented, most injury-prone offensive lines while he was the OC.

He probably is, if all you look at is the first couple drives. After that, he doesn’t adjust to the D adjusting to his scheme.

I think Shane should fall right in the middle of the pack, 6th seems way too high. He has some nice creativity and any OC will struggle with an O-Line that doesn't allow you to do things you want. But he also did absolutely nothing to fix issue that occurred throughout the game. Solid opening scripts, muddy until hurry up. Lot of garbage drives from 1-2 dumb play calls at terrible times due to a defense that couldn't get off the field.

My view on Shane is he's a very smart behind the scenes guy. With film and an empty drawing board, he can come up with some great ideas. The best OC's adapt from their game script and keep the pace going, something Shane struggled with. That said, most OC's who are that good don't last long and become HC's anyway.

When I read the OP, I immediately asked myself if I could name 10 offensive coordinators and their teams. I couldn't quite do it, at least not off the top of my head. Maybe the writer of the article was having the same problem.

Far too high for my liking. I'm a fan of Schottenheimer, but not a huge fan. He had some bad plays in his playbook and his half-time adjustments were non-existent. I'd have him slightly above average and well ahead of Waldron. Waldron has been criticised for unbalanced run-pass play-calling, (unfairly so in my opinion give how some games panned out), but I can't forgive his usage of RBs in the passing game.

It's kind of a bunk ranking because a third of coaches call their own plays. Andy Reid, Matt LaFleur, Mike McDaniel, Shane Steichen, Shanahan, McVay, Sean Paynton, Kevin Stefanski, Kevin O'Connell. You put these guys in the list too and then Waldron would be in the middle some where

Waldron is a middle of the road OC. Not bad but not great. He doesn't have a feel for the game when he has to make adjustments.
