The Bears have been cursed at the QB position. If that remains true, Jayden Daniels will prove to have been the far better choice down the line, and perhaps one other QB from this year's draft. We'll see if the curse holds up.

I’m old enough to remember Butkus and Sayers playing at Wrigley Field. Soldier Field is also about 100 years old. That field can be a mess in winter. I want the Bears in a dome playing on a nice, fast surface, no snow/rain. It will be great for Caleb and the Bears passing offense.

I doubt the governor would approve use of any Illinois tax revenue for this project.
Yes they played in Wrigley while Soldier Field was being redone ect.
Sayers scored 5 times in one of those at Wrigley.
I don't blame you for wanting a Dome -I don't understand why any cold/rainy
weather team doesn't play in one.
I just disagree on how you get the Dome and it better be made to last 100 years.

The Bears have never had a QB drafted #1. A guy on the Bears forum found some research that only 30% of those are failures, whereas the odds are no better than 50% for those drafted lower in first round. The other encouraging thing is that no rookie QB has ever had as much support as Williams will have. So far I’m resisting PTSD — optimistic but nervous. I can’t wait for this season to start.

Bears played at Wrigley 1921-70. And then Soldier Field for the next 50 years. They’re due a new field, and it can’t be built without some tax revenue. The same holds for all major public works projects.

No rookie? Dude, you seriously need to learn to drop hyperbole when talking about the Bears. You sound like a complete homer.

Not true. In 60 years, I’ve never said that before, and plenty of non-Bear folks are saying it. He has two Pro Bowl WRs who each had 1,200+ yards last season. That has never happened before. He has Odunze, who was #9 in first round and one of the top 2 or 3 WRs in the draft. That may have never happened before — at least I can’t recall an example. Bears will be fine at TE with Kmet and Everett to run Waldron’s offense with the two TE formations. Swift and Herbert both averaged 4.6 ypc last year, and Swift is also a good receiver. Bears offensive line is solid at the tackles, but somewhat questionable in the middle, albeit upgraded at center. I like Shane Waldron as OC, but I guess we can argue about that. With all the talent available, he should do fine.

The Bears finished last half of season as top-5 defense in points allowed. The back-7 is very strong. Poles has invested a lot into those positions both in the draft and free agency. The defensive line needs another pass rusher. Dexter improved a lot as 3-tech in his rookie year, and came to OTC ripped and ready to make a big leap in his second year. Anyway, the Bears defense will be a net plus for Williams and the offense.

If you think a rookie QB has ever had a better setup, who is he?

Dan Marino, Terry Bradshaw, Jim Kelly, off the top of my head. Yeah Jim played in the USFL before going to Buffalo but he was still a Rookie in the NFL.

Peyton Manning, too.
Other than Faulk, he didn’t have much help. The offense scored 19 ppg and Colts went 3-13. Bears are going to be WAY, WAY, WAY better than that team! You can bet on it.

What’s you second team?

Marvin Harrison. And they were 13-3 one year later. The Bears won't be.

Also, as Chris98251 mentioned, Dan Marino and Jim Kelly. But, yeah, just ignore evidence because your such a Bear homer.

You know what's a fact? 7 winning seasons in the last 28 years. The McCaskeys are incompetent owners. The last time the Bears were great was under the last coach George Halas hired.

A couple of data points or thoughts:

Team owners looking to build or revamp big league sports stadiums often seek public funds in the hundreds of millions of dollars. But research conducted over decades indicates these investments almost never lead to massive economic gains for host cities.

If I am not mistaken, the Los Angeles stadium for Rams and Chargers was privately funded. While the Raider's Vegas stadium got money from the city or state?

Marvin Harrison wasn’t much help that rookie year, either. The statement was about support during rookie year, not second year. Williams next year will have even more support and NFL experience.

I don’t need a history lesson on the Bears. I’ve been through everything since 1963. George says he’s going to sit back and trust football professionals Warren, Poles, Cunningham to run the show. I’m not sold yet on Poles, and take heat about it from the Bears “homers” on their forum. They have all already crowned his ass.

I’ll take a look at Marino and Kelly.

Only 4 teams own their stadiums.

True, but I won't be surprised that getting cities to invest in stadiums for NFL teams will get harder and harder.
Feel like LA's is the way forward outside of the south. Even the new Key Arena was privately funded although I think the company doing it also gets major tax breaks from the city.

Will be interesting what happens in the next decade with Lumen field. It's probably due some sort of upgrade although it is ageing pretty well. Could see them redo the hawks nest and have some sort of massive screen put in like the newer stadiums.

I agree with you that Williams is probably the most setup of any QB of recent memory I am not expecting a lot from Odunze being a rookie. I have said it before I will say it again it was a mistake to keep Eberflus, I would have fired him and hired Dave Canales who is a true QB friendly coach who has positive results as a QB coach working with Russell Wilson, Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield. I wouldn’t trust Waldron to develop Williams, I wouldnt be surprised to see a similar offense to the one that Seattle ran with Wilson I see them as comparable players

Eberflus isn’t getting fired, unless everything goes to hell this year. I’ve never understood why so many Seahawks fans are sour on Shane Waldron. I can tell you that Bears fans are happy to have him, especially replacing incompetent Getsy. I know he’s going to run the ball, and I’m fine with that. It will open up the passing game for his elite WR group. Odunze will enjoy the single coverage. I’m expecting 750-800 yards from him, and close to 2,000 combined from Moore and Allen (if he can stay healthy).

As a citizen and a football fan, I oppose using city $$$ to help some billionaires build a stadium. Owning a stadium increases the value of that billionaire's team.

Do you understand that billionaires like Paul Allen and Bill Gates literally give away billions of dollars to charitable causes through their foundations?
