I get the quantity argument, but how does a team manage the bandwidth in a manner that gives both QBs a chance to develop?
I remember when Washington took RGIII in the 1st round, and then in the 3rd or 4th they took Kirk Cousins. I thought it was nuts at the time, but after RGIII got injured, it didn't seem so nuts.

If you need two, it's fine to draft your planned backup in the middle rounds. Two quarterbacks in the first, though, will just lead to an absolute mess where both players are unhappy at having significantly decreased career prospects, and will likely lead to having zero franchise guys due to the messiness of the situation.

If you're drafting a planned franchise quarterback at 5, he is not going to be happy whatsoever when you draft a competitor with your next best pick instead of a supporting piece for the team. It's malpractice.

Agreed.

I don't want us to draft two QBs in this draft at all, let alone use our two top picks. That would be nuts.

They told Geno that drafting a high round qb would be a possibility before he signed his deal. He knows he's on a short leash, and he knows this is his opportunity to make sure the new kid doesn't see the field. And he still signed with the Hawks regardless, so in my humble opinion, I don't think it will be messy.

sure it "could" be, but have you seen many times a singular anonymous post on a message board had the right information but nobody was willing to anonymously take it to any major journalists or media outlets? I say the odds are REALLY SLIM that the post is anything more than someone posting something randomly on a board. Even if it happens to be true, it's highly unlikely.

No I agree with that. What I meant was could it be that the Vegas odds shifted because of information those “in the know” have, that had nothing to do with the Reddit post? Vegas doesn’t release rational for why lines shift rapidly, nor would they necessarily even know why. So in reality no one knows why the line shifted in this case.

From what I see people are just assuming the Reddit post is what shifted the odds so much because of timing and because there was nothing else publicly released, but the lines could have shifted because of non public info that only big players in Vegas odds know about.

Sounds like someone above Indie is trying to see if they can con them out of a trade up.

RG3 was fine with taking Cousins in the 4th, but would've been upset if he was a late 1st/early 2nd? A lot of conjecture here. What could RG3 have done if they took Cousins earlier?

Maybe the 49ers would've taken Aaron Rodgers if he fell a few more spots to them #33 overall after taking Alex Smith #1 overall.

To add more broth to this chicken soup, what I read is that the post was based on Levis telling family and friends he had received notice from Carolina they intend to pick him and that ownership and staff had reached consensus.
That is provocative but HIGHLY unlikely to be true.

This is one of those things that I want to be true. Just because it would be legendary that the first overall pick was leaked by some random acquaintance of Levis or his family/friends on Reddit.

And next draft we’d be inundated with insane Reddit posts and every big name media person would be like: “We didn’t believe it with Levis last year… so maybe it’s possible.”

More chaos is fun.

I'm not saying there's an arbitrary line drawn at the end of the round. At all. Come on.

I'm just saying that it's a pretty shitty move to make, and it wouldn't go over well on any level of the organization. Quarterback is a position that is highly dependent on development, which itself is highly dependent on organizational chemistry, supporting cast, and play time.

Taking a quarterback at 5 and 37 would be dumb, too. Doesn't really have to be two firsts.

Taking quarterbacks at 2 and 102 is different, though. One is clearly being taken as a depth player with no expectation at an immediate path to starting, whereas pick 2 overall is where you'd select an instant starter and franchise player.

The Panthers would of not traded up to the first overall pick for Levi’s. They knew exactly who they were going to pick before they made a trade

Vegas odds move with the money. If betters start putting money on something heavily (sometimes just one gigantic bet) it can move the odds drastically.

So much conjecture.

Anthony Richardson is on record of saying he's willing to take the backseat. Late 1st rounders don't expect to start anyways, they have to earn it if they have legit competition. See Green bay with Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love both learning as backups for years before getting the chance to start.

If they're able to land Stroud/Young at #5, and Richardson falls to #20, that's a dream situation if they love both guys.

Suddenly, Levis is absolutely rocketing towards being the favorite to go #1 overall. The catalyst could be a post on Reddit claiming to have inside knowledge of the situation, but this is a massive movement. The books have been shutting down intermittently today.

They are already saying if that happens it’s due to racism 😂,
(Not even joking)

This is not a dream situation whatsoever, though. It's a dramatic overusage of draft capital on a position where only one player can start, and the team just signed one to a significant contract.

Congratulations, you've now got 3 quarterbacks, with the hope that one of the two young ones will be a good starter after you've wasted half of his rookie contract, and have nearly guaranteed that one of these first rounders is a complete waste. The dream.

There's a reason this is a highly unconventional thing that's never happened - because it's not a good idea.

They literally structured Genos contract to get out of it in 12 months. They even told him why they were doing that. Lock is on a 1 year deal. It's not that farfetched.

Drafting two quarterbacks in the first round is not far-fetched?

Yes. Yes, it is incredibly far-fetched.

Umm, one of your first rounders is likely going to be a complete waste anyway. I'd rather consider drafting Stroud and Richardson as ensuring the most important position is covered. It's not the most idiotic idea given how much a crapshoot the draft is.

How many teams draft a QB, wait two years to realize he sucks, draft another QB, wait two years on an endless loop. If you are looking for a franchise QB, go big or go home. You aren't likely to win until you get a decent guy.
