My dream would be Carter and Kansey. Solidify the front immediately and then possible Mozzie Smith in later round. We stop the run and keep linebackers clean to make plays, it makes everyone better.

What would you like to see with those first two?

I don't like the idea of Carter at all. But, if he is an option, it would be in their best interest to see if anyone else that is draft worthy on that UG defense is known to have Carter's ear or be able to influence him. It would be great to have an already established big DL that would command respect and make Carter answer to but I don't think they have that yet. Reed & Wagner? maybe.
That's why Philly makes too much sense. I've read that Davis can actually be that positive influence that you'll need to get the best out of Carter.

If you think Mazi would be the Elephant role, you are either unfamiliar with the system and terminology, or you are unfamiliar with Mazi.

Some said Red Bryant was too big when Pete moved him out there, but Vince Wilfork was heavier and played the same role for NE.

Mazi Smith: 6’3” - 337 lbs
Red Bryant: 6’4” - 323 lbs
Vince Wilfork: 6’2” - 325 lbs (more likely 350+)

Smith is a bit stronger, has 80-7/8” wingspan, and is quick for his size. Maybe Wilfork and Big Red weren’t good enough in those roles…?

I think that you're misunderstanding what the LEO role is.

A LEO in Pete Carroll's defense was a stand up pass rusher that fulfilled the same niche as a 3-4 OLB. This is the role that players such as Chris Clemons played for our defense. One hallmark of the LEO's is they were usually slightly undersized for 4-3 ends and quicker.

Red Bryant played DE when we used the LEO. His job in this respect was to eat up space so that a guy like Clemons could blow past his assignment. It functioned a lot like a 3-4 front in many respects. While Bryant and Clemons were listed as DE's, they had VERY different roles.

In 3-4 the DE's play what would be 3-Tech in the 4-3 system. This means in a 4-3 system, they would be DT's. This is where player like Mazi Smith and Jalen Carter sit. If we were back in Carroll's old system, Jalen Carter and Smith would be a 3-Tech defensive tackle. The LEO position would be manned by Uchenna Nwosu and and Darrell Taylor.

Pete has been dropping hints that they're likely moving away from a Fangio style defense... perhaps going back to a 4-3 base.

Mazi Smith, Keanu Benton, and Siaki Ika are 3 of the top 1 tech (4-3 D) or 0 tech (3-4 D) in the draft; which is the weakest position on DL currently. Grabbing one of those guys will help toward improving that. Carter is a 3 tech in 4 man front (DT) and a DE in 3 man front.

What about Mazi Smith makes you think that he could play the position? He does not fit that profile. I have yet to see an NFL team field a guy like that as a 3-4 style OLB, which is the role the LEO or Elephant played in Carroll's defense. Are you trying to refer to the role Red Bryant played or are you insinuating that he would make a good stand up pass rusher?

A source with knowledge of the Seahawks' draft plans told me this week that the floor for Murphy is No. 20 -- if the team doesn't select a defensive end at No. 5. Murphy, who blazed a 4.51-second 40-yard dash while weighing 270 pounds at his pro day, would give Seattle's defense the juice it needs coming off the edge.
