I actually think it probably was, partly. His area of expertise is primarily the back 7. The secondary had played well, especially the backup strong safeties. He has Ryan Neal balling hard. Jonathan Abram looks way better than he ever did in Vegas or Green Bay. Teez doing decent, too. He's elevating guys who couldn't stick on other rosters. It wasn't because of his work here this season that's for sure.
Pete is inherently a DBs coach, given that's the position he played. It's been so great during Pete's tenure, to have competent DBs pretty much every season, such a turnaround from the pre-Pete days of Kelly Jennings and other DBs we used to pick on. So if aspiring young coaches are influenced by Pete's DB coaching superpowers, I'd expect they'd be in demand around the NFL (copycat) league.I actually think it probably was, partly. He's also well-liked, very bright, and did well in Chicago when he got his chance as a DC. Not a stretch to think that he's seen as a promising candidate.
Hurtt definitely wouldn't be getting interest, but the other secondary guy the 'Hawks brought in (Karl Scott) was also rumored to be a name that's been tossed around by execs. I think the league thinks highly of the Seattle secondary and wouldn't even sniff the front 7 coaches.
