That was beautiful. I think the NFL has finally figured out the secret for Monday Night Football - it's finally giving us fans what we've been desperately begging for. Penalties. I ******* love them. I ******* love them! When I see that ref clutching the sexy yellow flag all I can think is thank god it isn't No-Nut November yet. Give me RTP, not calling holding or fumbles when they occur, illegal contact, pass interference, defensive holding on a field goal, that's the shit I tune in for. The players did a great job tonight at just letting the refs play, the coaches were screaming, the fans were looking wide-eyed and booing - THIS WAS SPORT at the highest level. I'm sure I'm not the only one who was overcome with ecstasy on that roughing the passer call - you know, the one where several flags all came down on the quarterback like a big yellow bukkake? I don't know about you guys, but I'll be tuning in every Monday wearing my black and white striped jersey, throwing flags around my house and screaming the calls in unison with these all-star officials at the top of my lungs. I can hardly contain my excitement for the next time a coach loses a time-out on a challenge for daring to question our boys who leave it all on the field every single week. This is a turning point for NFL ratings folks, and we all get to say we were here to witness it.

I am getting tired of the questionable officiating. I stopped watching half the NFL games I normally did.
Didn't even bother with MNF after the Brady thing this weekend. Figured Mahomes would get plenty of help too. Sure enough.

I guess they don't need more fans. NFL is plenty popular but Ive stopped caring about the 4th quarters recently because tight games tend to have bad officiating decide more outcomes than make sense.

I was at an event, so didn't get to watch the game. I have the Chiefs in my Suicide pool and it is only me and one other guy left this season - so I obviously wanted them to win.

Looking at posts from people first half, seems the concept was the Refs were rigging it for the Raiders. But then the Chiefs won.

I think it has more to do with the NFL being a corporation that really cares about its image, and the optics that come along with it more so than everything else. Tua Tagovailoa's injury and the media outrage afterwards, is leaving them scrambling to protect the QB's more than ever before. The NFL is trying to distance themselves as much as possible from concussions due to lawsuits.

This is slightly off-topic, but even EA Sports took concussions out of "Madden" a few years ago; most likely because they thought it gave them negative publicity. The players can still get injured in the game; they just can no longer receive concussions. Which is a total BS move on their part and everyone knows it. I highly doubt EA would do something like that unless they were told to by the league.

At the end of the day, the NFL is just a business with major broadcast partners worth billions. The brand they put forward is the most important thing for them. People are addicted to football and the NFL knows it. You could even make the argument that the NFL is just a television show. I'm not sure it's rigged per say, it's just a big wealthy company that has the human element involved that makes mistakes and is reactionary to those mistakes.

The roughing the passer penalty called on the Chiefs was about as bad of a call as I've seen since the Vinny Testaverde helmet TD. It's already caused a stir in the league office.

They need to get the booth more involved. They don't need to make every play under the sun reviewable and slow the game down, but someone in the booth or in their control center needs to get into the headset of the crew chief and tell them to pick up the flag when there's an obvious F-up.

It's being manipulated for a number of different gambling lines and props. The first half may be steered in a second direction and the second half in another. They may be aiming for the over or the under and thus making certain calls against both sides.

Truth is that the games are being made competitive through four quarters. If a team is leading big in the third quarter the refs will start calling penalties against them to make the comeback possible. The whole point is advertising. It doesn't matter who the teams are. When your advertisers are coming to you complaining that their ads are not being seen in the fourth quarter because most fans change the channel when the game is out of reach, you have to do something. The NFL had to tell the refs, keep the games close so we don't lose viewers.

Just heard the guys on Sirius NFL this morning talking about last nights game being "the perfect game", one score game in 4th. I have believed the steering of games has been happening a long time. Nothing will change unless everyone stops watching, which will never happen. We still have people watching WWE that thinks it real.

This! It seems like it's an every year thing now. Why not let players and coaches have at least a few years to adjust and get used to the rule changes? They hardly get any time to adjust, and then suddenly there's more new rules/emphasis/whatever. When looking back in NFL history, fans are going to be confused:

"Well you see, this game was played in 2023 where the league instituted a rule change, but before they tweaked that rule change for the first time in 2024, and then placed a different emphasis in 2025, before abandoning the entire thing in 2026. So that's why there was a penalty on that specific play of that game on October 18, 2023."

Enough with the player safety bullshit too. These players ALL make enough money to have a very solid financial foundation for the rest of their life. Even just a few hundred thousand dollars ("just" lol) is enough to give somebody a huge leg up for the rest of their life. The only ethics involved is full disclosure. Disclose to the players that football may cause permanent injuries and may shorten their lifespan. Make then understand the risks fully and factually As long as they know that, it's on them if they agree to it. And they will. It will not break the league.

So, why are you here?

For me, I still watch football for the X's and O's. It truly is a chess game if you know how to view it. The league can not take that away from us. I began watching football for defense. I absolutely loved watching the 80's Seahawks teams because our 3-4 was run so well. I loved watching the Eagles defense when Brown (may he RIP) and White were on the line together. I loved watching the Giants defense. I did not like the West Coast offense, but loved watching how the defensive coordinators had to respond to it's precision.

I didn't play long due to injury, but I played defensive tackle and had to learn more about how the offensive line moves and how to respond, so got more into the X's and O's of line play. Which led me to learn even more about the X's and O's of the offense. I have seen the evolution of the systems and enjoyed almost every minute of it.

I almost stopped watching the NFL after XL* as I did with the NBA when it was patently obvious that the games are sometimes rigged (more prevalent in the NBA and I will never go back), but there is still the chess game using humans who can do amazing things physically.

It is getting harder to enjoy the product since the NFL has decided they want ninety point games.

However, they can not take the X's and O's from us.
