Knox was the coach in the two Seahawks games my dad took me to see in Foxborough in 1984 and 1986.
I'll never forget the magical 1983 season, especially the playoff game in Miami, and I'll never stop hating the Raiders.
I also remember a game at the end of a season in the '80s. I'm not sure, but I think the Seahawks needed to win to have a shot at the playoffs. The few uninjured linebackers they had at the beginning of the game got injured during the game, so they ended up winning with no healthy linebackers. I remember seeing Chuck Knox in the Seahawks locker room after the game, telling the team he had never been prouder of one of his teams than he was of the Seahawks that day. Was that 1986?

I wonder what would have been had Behring not purchased the team. In 1986 we started out slow and as a result missed the playoffs but by the end of the season I feel we were the best team in the league.
The difference in Training Camps under Patera Vs Knox was stark. Pateras camps were tough and seemed miserable for the players. A lot of scolding and negative reinforcement. He didn't allow much water consumption and Eastern Washington in August is very hot and dry. There were a lot of fun moments though, so I can see why players may have liked him.
Knox's camps were more about details and teaching, both plays and techniques. Players could drink water and Gatorade as necessary. Knox wasn't a yeller but he was fiery at times. You got the sense that the best player was going to start regardless of "status". You could tell he loved the Big Guys on the O-line though. Also he seemed to really liked Dave Brown and seemed to use him as a player coach for the DBs.

Sounds like a GREAT summary of a great Coach - from when I first discovered the NFL in 1985.
Coach Knox will always be one of my all-time favorite Seahawks coaches. Hard nosed but fair. Made the team relevant. The players loved him and respected him mightily. My childhood is littered with memories of Coach Knox and those early year Seahawks teams and all those fantastic players in the early and mid 80's.
