My guess is early as the fouth round, were we have two selection. I'd love to have that big power back, but I see them drafting a more balance ball carrier.

With Carson‘s career likely over, Penny on a one year deal, and no one else showing bell cow potential seems like a serious need. Likely not before R3, but you never know with this FO.

On the plus side the list of backs that fit the height-weight-explosiveness profile looks fairly long. Another example of this being a deep draft that just lacks the top end sizzle.

They should draft a RB. Carson shouldn't be back for health reasons, Penny has yet to last a whole season without injuries, Homer and Dallas haven't shown that they are every down backs. With that, we must draft a RB.

Good comments above, and I generally agree. With our troubles at RB over the past few seasons, I expect them to pick at least one.

I'm not usually a fan of an early RB, but I would not hate it at all if we took Kenneth Walker III with one of our second rounders. I think he can have a Jonathan Taylor-like impact early in his career.
Kenneth Walker is my #1 RB in this draft. I think Walker has a different running style than J. Taylor, but could definitely have a big positive impact on the offense.

So what is your reasoning for wanting to taking a RB late? Just curious to your thinking.
I think we are OK not good or bad just ok with what we have, but taking a flyer on a guy who has potential or is a project is ok with me on the later rounds as we have many many many holes to fill

That's super reasonable. I feel the same about our current RB situation. Taking a flier on a 6th or 7th round RB is cool with me.

The 2023 has some exciting Seahawks type RBs that we could target late in the 1st round or early 2nd round next year.

I don't know how close you follow the draft prospects...but what positions and/or players would you like to target in the 2nd round and why?

I'm hoping offensive line in the first and straight defense for the rest unless they think they have a running back or a QB they really like

Heck yes to Walker or Hall. But we'd have use one of our 2nd rounders to land either of those cats.

In today's NFL, it's generally a good idea to get RBs from the draft, not from free agency. Even second (first non-rookie) contracts for RBs are pretty risky, because the RB's production is very likely to decline significantly during that contract. RBs tend to peak around age 27, so if a guy is drafted at age 21 or 22, he's 25 or 26 when the second (first non-rookie) contract starts. RBs tend to decline very rapidly from their peak performance. Yes, there are exceptions, even extreme ones (and those exceptions make the tendency to decline look weaker than what a team should actually expect, because of survivorship bias), but the tendency is rapid decline, so even a second (first non-rookie) contract can quickly become a liability.
Drafting a RB in the first round is a terrible idea, because of all the guaranteed money, but teams should always be considering drafting running backs in rounds 2-7 and acquiring them as UDFAs. Given the current state of the Seahawks' RB room, it would definitely be a good idea to pick up one or more rookie RBs this year. Just not in the first round.

I agree with this. Of course the guaranteed money decreases so quickly as the draft proceeds that I don't have a problem with taking an amazing prospect at the bottom of the first round. Paying a star RB 2.3/2.9/3.5/4.2 with a fifth year option as the #32 pick is still an incredibly good deal. The likelihood of such a prospect being available becomes more realistic as teams continue to devalue the position.

Quantity is the important part though and the key is to keep drafting RBs so you have a RB room full of rookie contracts that you can keep cycling through as players get injured or leave for free agency.

Walker and Hall have the production numbers, with Hall having a nice spin move and Walker can side step with the best of them. However if you watch the tape you will see they have 10 foot holes to run through.

Spiller is the best in the draft. He is big, super fast and can juke a shade under Barry Sanders...and like Barry, his line gave him little to work with.

People are saying no RB will be drafted in the first round but I am saying a team that has it all outside of a stud RB will pull that 1st round trigger.

Last 8 picks of the 1st: Hall
First 8 picks of the 2nd: Walker
Seahawks #41: Spiller
Spiller will be the best RB in Seahawks history!

I'd like A. Smith in round 4 his yac is high and seems to be very durable. He had over 1600 yards last season.
