During the 2005-06 magical run to the Super Bowl.. if you may remember, the Seahawks finished 13-3.. had the 1 seed and HFA wrapped. They would host the 6th seed Washington Redskins, on a Saturday afternoon at the CLink (though it was still Qwest Field then).
The parallels between that team and this one are pretty eerie.
- A concussion knocked out a key offensive weapon (Alexander, Harvin)
- The weather wasn't ideal.. as it rained for most of the game
- The offense sputtered throughout the game while the defense played very well.
- An unsung offensive player would have a HUGE play in the 4th quarter to help pave the way to a victory (Mack Strong, Baldwin)
The Seahawks would go on to win 20-10 that day. 8 days later they would look like a completely different team on offense, and an undermanned Panthers team would have no shot in hell that Sunday evening.
The 49ers are obviously not the 2005-06 Carolina Panthers .. but this just goes to show you that in the playoffs, the BIGGEST thing.. especially after a bye.. is just moving on. It doesn't have to be pretty.. just. move. on.
