It is a real rule, although the Lions/Jets game in the 90s is the only time I can recall it having an impact. Just rarely enforced and would be very frowned upon.

If this sort of thing was enforced . . . I can't even . . . I can't.

LMAO, silly douchebaugh! There used to be a rule, Broncos and Elway cried its was too loud one game in the Kingdome. The refs response... "Snap the damn ball!"
Its called Homefield Advantage! Nothing is stopping any fan base in the NFL from being as loud a they want! So they can do it too!

Sounds like someone just made that up. I don't see any reference to it online.

Lmao not happening. The stadium will be rocking tonight. The refs or Harbaugh won't be able to stop the 12s.

If enforced, it would cause a PR nightmare for the NFL. They are trying to get people to go to games, and this would be a big blow to their effort.

Any link to the article the op was referring to? I tried google but nothing...

There is nothing to google.

That's kinda what I thought, it sounds pretty bogus. There's no way they can get the 12th man to quiet down with such a big time game. The controversy would be insane if they tried calling anything like that.

Found this....

Fans have always been loud Seahawks fans like to point out that they were extra vocal even back in the old Kingdome days. By some accounts, the NFL’s now defunct “noise rule" penalizing crowds that were too loud was the direct result of a game in the Kingdome where Denver quarterback John Elway complained to the officials that he couldn’t relay his signals. - See more at: http://www.kpluwonders.org/content/i-wo ... Looks like D-Baugh just blowing smoke out of his southern end as usual!

How could they still have this rule when they just added new rules encouraging crowd noise?

Also, question. Isn't there a rumor that a lot of stadiums used to pump in crowd noise? Weren't the Vikings famous for this or something?
