  • My biggest concern will be just how much we're going to have to be paying him next season, as he's a FA in 2014, and if that cost looks to be prohibitive, just how much draft capital we'd be looking to spend.

  • Why? I'd rather have Tavon, Steadman Baily, or Ryan Swope. If this is the case I hope they aren't offering a whole lot. No more than a third rounder or Matt Flynn at that point it makes sense. I hope he isn't a head case.

  • There are two things to focus on:

    1) Pete Carroll LOVED Harvin coming out of high school.

    2) Harvin is going to cost a lot. He is asking for Calvin Johnson type of money. That is a lot for a WR especially for a WR on our offense.

Except for all of that nonsense came from this quote:
"[Harvin] is a star player in our league, but I would imagine that he sees himself in the class of the top wide receivers in our league," the source said. "I do know at his production, when he was healthy, he was producing along with Larry and Calvin and those guys. I could see Harvin's agent making the argument that he deserves their type of pay."

    So it's bullshoot.

  • Am I the only one who kind of hopes that this happens but only on some sort of a one year rental sort of deal?? I was initially against it because of the prohibitive cost of the new contract that he wants but feel he it could work on a 1 year sort of deal. (I tend to think that his game is too similar to Tate's - he's obviously a better, quicker version, but think he could stretch the field a bit more). I'm not as big of a fan of this move if they want it to be long term - we need a taller burner type receiver more than another short, shifty guy for the long term.

Maybe, but it's just about impossible to compare a trade involving a quarterback that still has 2 years left on his deal to a trade involving a WR who does not want to play for his current team and walks in FA after the current season.

  • If this trade takes place i can not see it being a one year rental sort of a trade. I see a 4 or 5 year deal in place before the trade happens. it will cost the team to much in my opinion not to have a deal in place.

  • 1st round, 7th round 2013 and mid-round pick next year. Leon now is expendable. Tate/Baldwin are now lower priority for future contracts, though Baldwin has value going forward. Tate as well, but he isn't going to be a priority to sign after his contract is up.

There are some risks but the upside is so great the team had to take a chance. Unlike the D Branch deal, I am on-board with trading a 1st round pick (though greed has me wanting it to be less).

  • I suspected Austin was our #1 target in the draft. This kind of cements that for me - they probably realized they wouldn't be able to get him at #25 so they went after Harvin.

  • This is SOOOOOOOOOO freaking awesome!

We just traded for one of the elite playmakers in the game! Plus, Harvin is only 24. He's six months and one day older than Russell Wilson.

This offense is downright scary now. You have to account for a top-notch running back, you have to account for Russell's legs and throwing ability, and now you have to account for one of the best playmakers in the NFL. How do you defend against that?

  • Hmm. I don't think that I like this move very much. I guess that John Schneider doesn't much like the WR talent in the draft. That definitely means that teams will have to pay a premium in the trade/FA market this year. I would have rather taken a run at Danario Alexander myself.

I do think Harvin is worth the 25th pick in the draft, but his injury history scares me. He also isn't worth 10M a year, so let's hope that the contract is mega-backloaded so that we can dump him when he turns 27 and loses his speed.

  • HUGE deal on our part, but I like it. Adds a much needed WR and gives us an extra option in the return game, and we give up what is a late first round pick and a 7th this year, and a mid round pick next year. I think if he can pass the physical, this is a really good deal for us.

Once Harvin passes a physical, Minnesota will receive Seattle's first-round (No. 25 overall) and seventh-round selections in 2013, along with a mid-round pick in 2014.

  • its pending a contract negotiation and passing his physical...

you guys do realize this likely spells the end for tate (who is a poor mans harvin) and leon washington... i dont think i like it but i will wait til i see the actual contract numbers and whether we get a 2nd rounder back in the trade or what...

really woulda much rather went after wallace who woulda complimented our receiving core instead of getting percy who makes tate (one of our best up and comers who was huge for us last year.. and he is best friends with russell wilson.. them and their wives hang out all the time..) plus it means we are likely gona grab an aging vet to use as a bandaid on the d line...... really liked the projection of bjorn woerner slipping to us at 25... he's gona be a poor mans jj watt.

  • Came out against the idea when discussed a month or so ago. Mostly for the cap implications vs value of our current WR corp and the draft. This is an all in type move.

As always, i trust the FO when it comes down to it. Hope i eat crow for it.

  • My goodness, I love this deal! Wow. Percy Harvin is an elite talent in this league. Matching him with a talent like Wilson is a scary proposition for opposing defenses. I'd trade the 25th pick in the draft 100 times out of 100 times to acquire a one of a kind player like Percy Harvin.

"If I were Tarvaris Jackson and Matt Flynn, I'd be leery of this kid because if you give him a chance, if you give him a chance and look past his 5 foot 11 or 5-10 and a half or whatever it is, if you give this kid a legitimate chance to win the job, he'll win it" - John Gruden
