Do you think Lockett is #1 receiver potential?

I don't know why but he just screams the second coming of antonio brown to me. He isn't Ted Ginn Jr fast, but he has the same kind of speed and acceleration that AB uses to lull defenders and blow past them.

Maybe my expectations are getting a little to high up there, but the 4th TD Russell threw to him, he made it look effortless, in the way Antonio brown makes it look sometimes. With this new passing offense I think we are about to witness something special for years to come with the wilson-Lockett connect.

An argument can be made that he is a top 3 receiver from that draft class. Honestly after amari cooper, I don't know what other receiver that is as good as Lockett right now.

So Ted Ginn Jr ran 4.38 at the combine and Tyler Lockett ran 4.40. Pretty much Ted Ginn Jr fast, if you ask me. Well within statistical spread.

I don't think 40s tell the whole story. Game speed I don't think there are many NFL players as fast as Ted Ginn Jr. Hes got after burners on his after burners.

Yes. You do know he was Kansas State's entire offense last year? And I mean ENTIRE offense, they knew what was coming yet they could not stop him even with quarterbacks that were Division Three at best. The man is elite just like Russell. I love it when a plan comes together. :)

In my opinion he is already twice the player Ted Ginn is! Ginn has some of the worst hands in football, I'm surprised he is still in the league. It is only because of the speed. Lockett is on a great track and is definitely the best rookie WR I have seen us draft. He picked up on the game very quickly, way quicker than Golden Tate did!

Ginn seems to be doing pretty well don't ya think? When's the last time you watched any sports highlights?

I love the numbered receiver threads. Technically the slot receiver is your #3 and that is Baldwin. But you can argue he is actually the Hawks #1. Or he's #2. I guess Lockett could be #1 if Baldwin doesn't mind.

IMO the #1 receiver is your go to guy. I believe that RW has confidence in going to Kearse, Baldwin and Lockett. This team doesn't have a true #1.

Not in the usual definition, yet. But it will be very clear soon enough.

I think the sample size is a little to small at this point to make claims that he's a legitimate #1. He's not the go to guy for sure and he may never be that within this system. He's a little guy too which is concerning. I need to see more before I can call him a #1 type receiver.

By the way Ginn is tearing it up this season bad hands or not.

For every catch you're seeing of Tedd Ginn on the highlight reel there are 3-4 that are easy wide open catches he is dropping.

I don't believe this thread was started as a comparison of Lockett and Ginn, he was just referring to the speed of Ginn compared to Lockett. Lockett's hands are 10x better than Ginn.

You mean the highlights where one of his TD's was a clear push off that somehow was called on the defender? Or the same highlight real that showed him dropping two more TD's that he was wide open on? There is a reason that Ginn has been passed around like a pornstar in a gangbang to the tune of five teams in nine years. He is fast, but has limited route potential, and hands of stone.

AB and ODB have something to say about that. Its becoming clearer that route running and hands are more important that big bodies like Dez. I would rather have little speedy guys that can get open for wilson.

Im not talking about him being a #1 right now, but im talking about in the future. Do you see anything in him so far that makes that case for him?

First you have to define #1 receiver before the conversation/opinions can start.

If you subscribe to it being the WR that has to be game-planned for by the opponents' defenses, then no, I don't see Lockett being a #1 receiver.

However, if you subscribe to it being the WR on a team that routinely gets the most targets/yards/TDs/1DNs, then yes, I believe that he has that potential. He's off to a tremendous start and I just love the kid's makeup/heritage/demeanor,

Like Russell, he's a winner.

Two games in a row he took huge hits up high, hung on to the ball and popped right up. Either hit would have put P-rich in the ICU.

I've always hated the term #1 WR because no one is able to define it in a way that is acceptable to everyone.

Having said that, not sure why i'm reading a thread about "#1 WR" and the most mentioned name is Ted Ginn.

He's not as polished of a route runner as Antonio Brown, nor does he have as big of hands, but the potential is nearly has high as Brown due to his out of this world quickness and change of direction.

Not only do I think he can be a legit No. 1, but an elite one at that.
