...being sacked on average every 8.35% of passing attempt, just a whisker behind Dave Kreig at 8.55% and Rick Mirer at 8.88%

Of the 173 NFL QBs (with minimum 1,500 career passing attempts), he sits at 136th.

Of the 33 active QBs in that list, he is 30th, ahead of Blaine Gabbert (TB), Deshawn Watsun (HOU) and Tyrod Taylor (HOU) bringing up the rear. Note that three Hall of Fame QBs sit below Wilson.

Wilson has played across 9 years, compared to Kreigs 18 an Mirer's 10.

For comparison, Rodgers is sacked on average 6.6%, Brady 4.63% and Mahomes 3.85%. The hardest to sack QB all time is Dan Marino at 3.13%. Note Mahomes is 6th all-time and Brady 9th.

Other significant Seahawk QBs are as follows: Hasselbeck sits at 75th at 6.33% and Zorn at 77th at 6.34%.

No matter how you look at it, the Seahawks have a long history of being a very sackable team, with all significant QBs listed in the bottom half of the list.

...just some food for thought :stirthepot:

The sack totals have been maddening for years now, but there seems to be no easy fix.

Some plays the o-line gives Russ no chance and he's under pressure as soon as he catches the ball. Other plays Russ seems to have all day and ignores the shorter throws before taking an avoidable sack. Plenty of examples of both during the GB game alone.

In seasons past we continually snapped the ball with 1 second left on the playclock making it easy for the opposing DL to jump the snap and putting our OL at an unnecessary disadvantage, but we seem to do that far less under Waldren.

Empty-set pistol formation drives me insane too. It almost always ends in disaster.

As I see it the issues, in order, are:

1. OL - Getting worse - started well last year and I was hopeful. Unfortunately Duane Brown looks washed up now and Damien Lewis has regressed since switching sides.

2. Russ - At this stage I think he is what he is, will equally look like Houdini some plays and take infuriating sacks on others.

3. Coaching & Scheme. The formations and playclock management seem better this year (excluding the pistol-only GB game)

A combination of a terrible O line and a QB who has a knack for running into sacks

Russ's tendency to take that extra step or two backwards does make life tough for the tackles who would normally consider it a win if they routed their guy upfield. It clearly does have a lot to do with viewing angles and so you should accept the bad alongside the good unless you can see exactly what Russ is seeing on any given play.

Our low hanging fruit for improvement is to get the ball out quicker on timing routes.

It's not going to change until there's a major shakeup. This is the result of RW's hero ball mentality paired with the organizations o-line philosophy.

Hasselbeck?...With Walter Jones, & Steve Hutchinson protecting his blind side?
With two HOF O-linemen, and a West Coast Offense, that gets the ball out quickly, doesn't bode well for a 'Scramble To Buy Time' Quarterback like Russell Wilson.
Our Offensive Line is not & can not be built to hold up for any Quarterback who isn't getting the ball out quickly, & that's why Pete is so anal about having a Running Attack to HELP Wilson.
This old idea of "Let Wilson Cook" 'On His Own' crap, is unsustainable, and PETE KNOWS THIS.
The fact that Russell Wilson is our Quarterback AND one of our TOP Rushers as well, what the he!! do some folks expect is going to happen?
Defenses have geared up, spied up, and game planned around, our 'ONE MAN GANG' Offensive Attack, and people are p*ssed at Pete for it?

really than how come every Qb under HC PC in the NFL was amongst the top 5 in sacks. Everyone. As has been posted many times ESPN did an analysis that showed only 20-25 % of the sacks might be attributable to Wilson. Guess whatever without them he is still top 5 in sacks. And that's not counting hits, hurries, pressure etc. And once again 60-70 % of Wilson's passes this year have been short so your whole hero ball BS is wrong.

It doesn't matter that "60-70%" of his passes have been short, though. He's tied for second in the category of intended air yards per attempt at 9.7. Yet again I say this to you for maybe the 300th time: STATS NEED CONTEXT TO MATTER. When that context is provided, we see that Russell is looking to go deep just as much as he always has and more than any quarterback in the league other than Justin Fields.
