Why are the Hawks so good at not burning bridges?

-- Maybe Fade is right. I once saw Pete walk by on old woman trying to pick up her purse from the ground. Pete just helped her pick it up, it was so embarrassing. He should have stood behind her, videoed himself pretending to dry hump her and then post it on Tik Tok. We can't win another championship if we won't dry hump a Granny.

The same reason they get embarrassed in the 1st round of the playoffs every year. They are too nice.

They need to be more relentless, cutthroat. In short, they need to be more like dirtbags.

Common L take from @Fade

Idk how much more cut throat you want them to be, traded away a washed up QB for a kings ransom, cut an all pro corner before the decline, let an all pro safety walk before his decline.

How bought trading the greatest QB in your franchise's history in his prime, even though you know the entire NFL world including your own fervent fanbase will burn you to the ground over it and ridicule you for years.

Well, one off season until they all realized you were right.

Being a good/great Head Coach is all about 'WE' building.
My respect for Pete Carroll started waaaaay before he ever came to Seattle...His inter-ACTION with the youth in those 'Troubled Neighborhoods' in LA was >life altering< for a lot of those kids, & although on the surface, this doesn't have a thing to do with Football, it does go to show his Selfless mindset when it comes to the Mutual Respect he nurtures in ALL his dealings with everyone he comes into contact with.

It's not completely selfless. Pete has a method to his madness.

He deeply understands the psychology of the young athlete, especially the troubled young athlete. He knows there's volatility there, but he also knows if you show young athletes respect, love and structure they'll not only respect you back, but they'll run through a wall for you.

So not selfless, it's 100% serving a purpose for the greater good of Pete's football teams and culture.

How could you forget the 2 kickers on the active roster?
As for the Hawks, just look at their NFLPA grades. The team's worst grade is a B-, which really helps players when they think about coming back.

Was that the same year they had Michael Bennett in preseason and let him go? It's tickling my memory that those two stories were connected. IMO, letting Bennett go was the worst mistake of Ruskell's tenure, not the Hutch thing. And if he let Bennett go to keep a second kicker, that just made it even worse.

Pete had nothing to gain from spending time with troubled youth and gang members on the streets of LA. If that isn't selfless, then the term has no meaning.

The one word answer is……

“Culture”.

Like it or not, agree or disagree.
Paul Allen, Pete Carrol, and John S. built something from the ground up, it has a strong foundation and many types of players/employees are attracted.

We all need to give P.A. Continued credit. IMHO, his influence lives on.

Not all his actions back then had ulterior motives, he offered some of them suggestions/Alternatives to following in the steps of gangbangers in their Hood, he knew that there were dozens of them were not going to become football prospects, or even Athletes, he tried to help SOME hardcase kids to just not fall through the cracks.
For most those kids, Criminality is all they'd come to know, because they were surrounded by recruiters showing off their side of criminal ill-gotten-gains, Pete just showed them a way to have a successful life while being legit.
I'm really curious about how many of those young folk found their way out of the traps....I think of it like this, 'how many other kids never get to glean what goes on outside the Hood, without having an outsider taking the time to show SOME alternatives.
If I'm Pete Carroll, and I've gotten the opportunity to save a handful of young'uns, I'm feeling pretty good about that.
Are there risks? sure--but doing nothing doesn't really produce anything either.

No wonder you love Russ, you're just like him; completely devoid of self awareness and deluded with grandeur. Why don't you go for the hat trick and hit up Subway to pitch a sandwich.

Well said. Makes you wonder if that being said, if Pete Carroll and this organization would be the best place Carter could go to.

It's hard to say. Some players need positive reinforcement/ negative punishment environments (Carroll style) to optimize their performance. Some players respond better to environments with negative reinforcements/ positive punishments (Historical boot camp)

If I had to guess, he would do better in a Carroll environment.

It is the Wine & Fruit basket they give every player that they cut. The 49ers only give their former players a $20 Hickory Farms coupon.
