What's going to happen at left tackle?

I'd trade a first for Thomas in a heartbeat and let's be honest that's probably what it will take since a Seattle second is pretty much a third. There isn't a single tackle who is likely to declare who is worthy of a first round pick currently.

This talk about a trade for Joe Thomas... How many quarterbacks have the Browns lost to an injury this season? Like maybe five? And we want someone from their o-line... Somehow I'm not so sure.

I don't see this team making any major moves for a tackle at this point, or I think we'd of seen it by now. It's good ole Pete's philosophy, next man up, even if he's a experiment and a complete train wreck at the position.

I see Webb playing right tackle and them moving turnstile, I mean Gilliam over to left. I don't think Fant is ready, and I honestly don't think even Pete's stubborn enough to bring call on 1 year converted TE/basketball player to cover RW's backside. Gawd I hope not anyway. Should prove interesting though.

Yea great idea! He was suspect at best, and now he will be a total liability out there now that he has a torn MCL.

So Fant as eligble tackle on a 6 man O line with him favoring the left side of the formation.

If whoever from the Saints D it is that lines up against Fant will also have to deal with Tuke, well then that could be gold - especially on power-runs off LG.

Fingers crossed.

Cable speaks of George Fant fixing issues as he encounters them during the game. More evidence, going back to training camp, that he is a quick study.

They will play without one, hell, who needs a left tackle anyway? Dump the entire line altogether. Just put in 5 running backs, 3 receivers, 2 tight ends, and Boykin. Then run the Wishbone

Thanks.

There's apparently a good chance that Sowell will play. My takeaway is that he would be the first choice, then a toss up between Fant and Rees (who both practiced at LT today in Sow's absence), but with Webb also in the mix.

Cable also said last year's line was perhaps the most talented he'd ever coached, so, yeah. Cable's coach speak is more suspect than most. I don't blame the guy at all. What is he supposed to say?

I didn't note much mention of J’Marcus Webb with regards to the left side today. And, apparently Cable wants to see more physicality out of Garry Gilliam on the right side. Cable is repeating a desire for more physicality out of the right tackle spot. So, there could be some competitive pressure brewing there.

I think George Fant is incredible talented. I just don't know if a player this inexperienced can be a LT.

I would like to know if there is precedent in the last 25 years, having a player (ballpark wise) this inexperienced at the game of football being anything at LT.

Basketball player to TE makes perfect sense to me. Running down the seam is like running on the fast break. Catching the ball is like an alley oop. Posting up at times especially in the red zone. Rebounding translates to fighting for the ball when it's in the air, using your body to pin the defender.

For OT though.
In basketball getting in the chair, and moving your feet on defense is somewhat similar to mirroring a pass rusher. After that I don't see many skills translating to OL. It's a whole new world.

Tom Cable is either a genius, or delusional. As the years go by I am leaning towards the latter. (Please be a genius.)
