Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton won't have the help of his head coach when it comes to winning the "Madden NFL '15" cover vote.

Fourth-year Carolina coach Ron Rivera said Wednesday he voted for "the opposition'' -- Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman -- multiple times over the past few days.

"I'm trying to avoid the jinx,'' Rivera said with a smile.
