Here is the man, shedding the block and wrapping up Lacy in the backfield, in the NFC Championship.

And here he is knocking Evan Mathis on his butt to stop LeSean McCoy.


My gratitude goes to McDaniel for serving this team well, helping us win a Super Bowl and two conference championships, leading the league in total defense and points allowed for two consecutive years, and setting a franchise record for fewest rushing yards allowed. You will be missed.

Coach Richard also mentioned Dobbs as a player who has stood out during camp and could compete at the three technique.

Richard: "Right now we have guys that can fill that role, Demarcus Dobbs is having a really good camp, that's another name that comes to mind. He's another big, strong, massive guy who's stout against the run."

First of all, this play is not to McDaniel's gap, so for him to disengage from a very talented run blocker in Evan Mathis and make a play to cut off the ball carrier is impressive. This was the standard type of play from McDaniel against the run. His ability to occupy and shed blockers really helped this defense over the last two years.

I said before in another thread that this wasn't Kam's best play. Williams split a double team and made a pile, so Kam had a free path to make a play on McCoy. Unfortunately, Kam hesitated on the play, did not attack the ball carrier with his inside leg, and allowed McCoy to get a first down. When it happened, I thought Thomas might have been barking at Kam after this play.

With a back like McCoy the goal is to keep him inside the tackles if a hole is there, Kam did that.

If as a D-Lineman you are making tackles 3-5 yards downfield it generally means you got beat.

I played offensive line for 14 years and I would call that a win vs a d-lineman.

Kam forced McCoy back inside playing outside leverage. McDaniel initially loses at the point of attack (driven 3 yards back and out of his gap), then recovers & hustles for an assist in Kevin Williams gap.

So the Hawks have about 7 mill in cap space now after Wilson/Wagner.

They have $5.3M under the cap if you count only the top 51, which is how it's counted during the off-season. This allows the team to sign a full training camp roster while preventing them from signing too many high-priced vets and cutting them before the season. Once final cuts are made, all final 53 players, IR players, and P-squad players are counted toward the cap. I've seen it roughly estimated that a team should set aside $5-6M to cover those extra players. So, really, Seattle is right at the line even with $5.3M "free" on paper.

He has a negative grade as a pass rusher at the three technique, which is a position where you need an interior pass rush.

I would still like to see more of Clark than Rubin.

Bobby's response seems more than a little cynical since he "just got paid". Why even take to Twitter with a comment like that? Interesting. Could be a symptom of a deeper issue that's effecting this team thusfar...

I think this was just before they reached an agreement with Wagner. He was pretty salty during that time.
