Just be the reds and call it a day. Or the huskys, then half the UW fans can leave this site.

ps Daniel Snyder is still an idiot.

The Onion headline from last week was hilarious:

Redskins’ Kike Owner Refuses To Change Team’s Offensive Name

(and yes, as an official Jewish person I give everyone permission to laugh. :) )

I still think Cleveland's team should get more attention than Washington's. I mean just look at Chief "Wahoo." At least they could make the logo more appealing like Washington's.

^^^ Visually, yeah, absolutely.

Difference being IMO that the team name itself isn't a pejorative slang term.

Who the hell knows anymore and their is no consensus. Some could care less if you call them Indians, some would rather be called Natives (American), some want to be tribe (Cherokee, Seminole, Natchez). When I was in school in the 80's and 90's we were told to call them Native Americans because Indian was offensive. The ones I knew back in Washington just went by Native(s) for short.

Who knows if it's a pejorative term or not? Everyone knows:

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/redskin
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/redskin
http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/us/de ... sh/redskin
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/redskin?s=t
http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictio ... olicy=true

There just happens to be a team that uses it so people pretend otherwise. That Rick Reilly got caught lying through his teeth when saying his father-in-law didn't find it offensive and Dan Snyder got caught hiring someone to pretend to be a tribal chief kinda tells us what we need to know, IMO.

I thought you were talking about the word Indian since you had ^^^ towards the post above yours. Serves me right for talking to a 49er fan.

Why not just rename 'em 'The Honkies' for a hundred years or so... and call it even!
:3-1:
Imagine on Sportscenter:
...tonight's Monday night matchup features: The Cowboys vs. The Honkies

...The Honkies Owner feels good about the change, honoring his own and all white peoples traditional roots

...RGIII refuses to play for a team called 'The Honkies"

...White People are up in arms, and parading through the nation's capitol with Swastika flags and righteous indignation

...the new fight song is: "Hey Hey we're The Honkies"

I don't see a problem with this... do you?

The thing about all this politically correct garbage is that they aren't even researching where the name came from. I have seen in other web sites that most native Americans aren't even offended by it. The name is meant to honor the bravery and strength by the natives.

This topic was never an issue before and is only an issue now because the media has made it an issue. If you repeat something over and over again, people start to believe it and this is just what the media and the people behind the media have done.

There be politicians using fake outrage to further their own agendas on the loose, son! Can't interfere with that. Therefore, "Redskins" is in fact racist and blahblahblah, you get the idea.

If this were real, you notice the guy bought the domain name WashingtonBraves.com, so I don't think people would use "hearts" for short, but "Braves".

I asked my students straight up whether they were offended by the name and thought it should be changed. I got a unanimous no. "It's the Redskins!" one senior went. "It's OUR team in the NFL. It wouldn't be the same if they changed it." (And yes, they're aware of the etymology of the name.)

None of them seem to care until they reach college and are told by white people that they should feel outraged.
