I forget, who's Richard Sherman again, is that one of those brothers of a Disney song writer team?

Sherman’s cap number for 2014 will be $3.631MM, tweets Joel Corry of CBSSports.com. It’ll jump to $12.2MM in 2015, $14.769MM in ’16, $13.631MM in ’17, and $13.2MM in ’18.

The best part was going to lunch and reading all the comments on PFT. Just hilarious.

There's an insane amount of respect for the LOB nationally. You can't hate something you don't care about.

Love seeing other fans being more passionate about the Seahawks than their own teams

Richard Sherman's '14 cap number is $3.631M. It's $12.2M in 15. His '16, '17 & '18 cap numbers are $14.769M, $13.631M & $13.2M.

Pretty manageable hits, especially with the '16 team cap expected to balloon. That should leave them with ~$11M to either play with or roll over to next year. Amazing that we still have that much space left.

I trust it Pete and John but over 14 mil a year is pretty high. I know a lot of you are counting it as 5 years, but he was already signed for this year at the 1.x mil number so it seems a little odd to me to include that to make the number lower when he was going to play this next year at that number with the extension or not. I love Sherman, but the hawks may have been better off letting him play out this year and then sign him. A lot can happen in a year. With that said... I can hear Crabtree crying from here :)

I love locking up Sherm, but IMO looking at some of the numbers it really looks like we got an absolute steal with Earl's extension.

His cap number only exceeds $14M once through the life of the deal. It's a $3.6M hit this year and a $12.2M hit next year. The entire deal is easily restructure-able or release-able after Year 3. This is the NFL -- you are never hamstrung by one player's contract for too long. In the meantime, they've built up goodwill among one of their best players, among their team, and among their fanbase. This was a no-brainer.

No because the value of paying these guys a year early so to speak as they have done with Earl, Kam and now Richard is nearly priceless. It keeps them focused on football not money and creates a culture where guys know if they perform, they will get paid. This leads to a locker room focused on winning, not contract deals.

Any hand wringing about this is silly. Look at our cap room the next few years and calm the f down

You could also look at it on the opposite side, Sherman would be on a contract year this year and would have more incentive to play hard. For some guys, not saying Sherman is one of them, a contract year gives you more incentive than having been locked up with 40 million guaranteed.
