He's going to have to sign a prove it deal somewhere. It might as well be here. Here's to him proving it, it could only help us. :thirishdrinkers:

Prove it deals, ring deals are thrown around here so often. Time to move on as he is an injury waiting to happen, past his prime and who knows when he will be ready if ever. Draft is full ow WR's.

Past his prime? 27 is right about the middle of a WRs prime producing years. Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, Pierre Garcon, Jordy Nelson, DeSean Jackson, Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Vincent Jackson, and Jimmy Graham. All were in the top-15 in receiving yards last year, and all were at least 27 years old. Obviously Rice isn't talented on a Calvin Johnson level, but he's more talented than guys like Garcon and Decker and right there with Marshall and Nelson.

That isn't to say that Rice is worth a big contract. His injury history makes him too risky for a big contract, but his price is going to be pretty low and his reward is still a #1 receiver on a run first offense, if his knee checks out.

With the number of injuries he's had. I don't really think he is 27 in football years anymore. I would think he's lost some speed at this point.

But I would be glad to have him back as long as it doesn't dissuade the team from drafting a receiver early.

One of my favorite catches of his was Chicago in overtime to win. He took one heck of a hit.
He was flat out unconscious after that legal but vicious hit. His arms went into the outstretched locked position common to knockouts. Because of the importance of the catch, the injury didn't get much coverage. Rice could've had a much better career if he'd learned to stay on his feet to catch the ball. He made some huge plays for us and no one can rationally say he didn't lay it out on the field, much like Tarvaris. Wouldn't mind Rice on a prove-it contract at all.

With a bad knee and lot of other injuries he is past his prime, I can't believe you used Calvin and Andre Johnson compare as they are two Hall of Fame players. he will not sign a cheap deal as many on hear have said and I agree he will get offers after the draft from teams for a good contract.

He has made a lot of really big plays for this team. And on a low $ contract, he's worth it. Total team guy, big guy, and not afraid to take a hit and/or go up and get it. Would be a great influence on whatever WR they draft this year as well.

It would be cool if he could make a catch without going to the ground.

No thanks. May be the slowest receiver in the league at the moment. For a #4 or #5 receiver, don't you want a young guy with some upside, and hopefully somebody that can help on special teams?

They will be drafting someone anyway so for the minimum it's a no brainer if he's healthy.

Not a chance he signs for the minimum, he will get a better deal from a team after the draft.

If he does he does and we move on. Reality is to play for us that would be his option. Maybe New Orleans will give him something (doubtful because they have no cap space), or the Jets, Carolina...(can't see it but stranger things have happened).

I don't see how you can say this, the combo of chronic knee issues + missed most of last year = low risk minimum deal. Rice has ZERO leverage to garner any other deal at this point in his career.

So, you speak to him personally to know he wont sign a cheap deal? Good to know. Just to be clear, Calvin and Andre Johnson wouldn't have the production in our system that they have had to this point. And obviously no one is comparing him with Calvin since Calvin is one of the greatest athletes of this generation.

Knee injuries suck, no way around it. But all his other injuries have been so random and could happen to anyone. He just seems to have an unlucky injury bug. I would have no problem if they gave him a #2 WR salary and wouldn't be shocked to see his stats get back towards 1,000 yard seasons with Percy taking attention off him.

Could anyone put up Michael Irvin numbers? They had a very very similar offense.

Michael Irvin highest season = 485 yards 3 TD
Sidney Rice = 2478 yards 245 TD playing for the Browns
