I think this is a pretty simple win win signing.

1) Whether we get helpful intelligence or not, the Rams will have to assume we did.

2) he’s got NFL experience which puts him above Ahlers who is the other on again off again PS quarternack

3) he’s a local guy so it makes a good story

4) he’s good friends with Lock so he should be a good fit in the QB room

5) We are talking about a practice squad qb so even if he’s a complete failure here it doesn’t really hurt us to bring him in for a few weeks and see what he’s got.

Certainly a Win Win development.

Brett Rypien is a pocket technician. He brings another mix of skills the QB room.

Fans may not appreciate the need for a competent Scout Team Quarter Back, but coaches certainly do.

All the receivers will most certainly benefit from an additional arm.

Like wise, defensive backs should benefit as well.

Interesting. He wasn't good enough to be a backup for the Broncos or the Rams, but we're going to sign him? Is this just to get intelligence on the Rams? Because he was terrible last week. So bad that the Rams released him in favor of Carson Wentz!
Almost impossible to take you seriously now.

Thank you for the injection of logic and clarity. The bit about already knowing Lock and being friends with him... great point!
If Lock is even too nicked up to even run a SCOUT TEAM at 100%, it makes even more sense to bring in Rypien.
Or maybe Lock has had an IBS flare-up after getting hit so hard it knocked the schitt out of him, so anything Pete said about Lock's condition would be TMI. Not to mention more information than future opponents need. Pete was so dismissive about putting in Lock for Q4 in the Baltimore blowout, there had to be something Pete was hiding.

Kind of like how if the Seahawks make the rounds of QBs and make a point of doing selfies and social media stuff with them, you know there's no chance in hell they'll draft a QB; it's a smokescreen. Pete and John can be so predictable.

They signed him to get intel on the Rams. Nothing more.
