Called exactly this days ago. First step will be support for the ball boy, then reluctantly, the Patriots will have to accept that he was the lone culprit. A young, enthusiastic guy who went rogue... crossing the line but without the knowledge of anyone else on the team. He will resign or be fired and everyone else will be exonorated.

As I said days ago, he falls on his sword and that is that. maybe a fine.

I'm sure they will try and take this path. But remember this is America. Some Indy fan will now file a Billion dollar lawsuit against the Patriots claiming fraud. Then depositions and lying under oath all come into play. The truth might actually come out some day.

NO WAY a ball boy acts alone without consulting with the QB.

Wait though, didn't Belichick just tell us Saturday that the Pat's personally investigated this entire ordeal and came to the conclusion that they did nothing wrong?

I could have swore he said "we pride ourselves in staying as far away from the line as possible." If they completed their own internal investigation then why didn't they also know that the equipment manager decided to take a detour into another room on the way to the field?

Breaking news: sources tell @FOXSports the NFL has zeroed in on a locker room attendant w Patriots who allegedly took balls from officials locker room to another area on way to field. Sources say they have interviewed him and additionally have video. Still gauging if any wrong doing occurred with him but he is strong person of interest
Was the locker room attendant named Lee Harvey Oswald?

The balls are taken from the officials room and into a single stall bathroom with one sink and door that locks where only one person can be in at a time.

If it's found that they where doing this it would be highly unlikely it was the first time considering the stats. What would be a fair punishment for 7 more years of cheating? It's too bad the NFL won't strip any Division titles, past accomplishments. Put an asterisk next to all of Brady's, Bills, and patriots records. Compiling passing records, winning records, etc that don't belong. And at least banning Bill, and Brady for one year as well as the loss of picks.

Most likely results in a small fine

So one lone lower-ranked equipment staffer is responsible, did it all without consultation, and everyone else is clean.

Sounds legit.

Well if they tie it to the fumble stats (which they should) then you have to go back to 2007 so the next questioin is, was that same guy there for 8 years? Doing the same job?

If not then are we to believe that the (however many) other assistants that also had his job also went rogue?

All just a big missunderstanding and coincidence?

The info is coming out and no matter what happens there is no way to ignore the facts. maybe the league will try and brush it off but the public wil know what really happened.

Completely realistic way that this might have been an accident:

I know it's already been mentioned, but a change in temperature, via the Ideal Gas Law, WILL result in a change in pressure.

Now, suppose the Patriots do something like throw their balls in a clothes dryer to get them "roughed up" enough to the way Brady likes it.

The internal temperature of the balls is suddenly much higher than the room temperature of 75 degrees or so. By the Ideal Gas Law, the internal pressure of those balls is going to be higher. Suppose either a ref or the ball boy decide they are too inflated, so he deflates them. Now they are at the right pressure, but still hotter inside than the local temperature.

IF they are hot enough inside, then when they have reached equilibrium with the outside temperature (what was it, 45 degrees or so?), their pressure would have lowered.

Again, this depends on the Patriots doing something kind of ridiculous to the balls to get them "roughed up" which raises their internal temperature to a particular amount. If that internal temperature is reached to where whoever checks the balls decides they are over-inflated, and they deflate them, then when the temperature drops the pressure will too. THIS IS A FACT OF THIS UNIVERSE, not speculation. The only question is, would that be enough? That depends specifically on the temperatures inside the balls at the time of the first pressure check and the temperature outside, but this IS a conceivable way that this mess could have occurred.

But you're wrong, many prominent scientists including Degrassi and Bill Nye have LOL'd at roughing up a ball on the outside = raising or lowering internal air or pressure.

Just about every person of science worth their salt has said the only way to lower PSI in a football two whole pounds is one way..................with a needle.

I've considered the possibility of it being accidental but if you take Tom at his word, he doesn't want anyone touching the balls once he gets them the way he likes them. It would also be unreaslistic that for 8 years the officials found they had to take air pressure out of 12 footballs every time they went to NE but nowhere else.

I just don't see any possible way this goes on for 8 years on accident.

That's not true. They have mentioned that increasing the temp would allow the pressure to drop as it cools, but it would require the temp to be over 100 degrees. But they could heat the balls up to get the pressure up to 12.5 when they are inspected so there is a larger temp drop and corresponding pressure drop when the temp reaches equilibrium.
