Ug. All the silver lining posts are great and all but here are some facts:
1. Richardson and Norwood haven't been sitting on the sideline in close games because they are so great we just didn't want to show our hand til we could find a buyer for percy.
2. Harvin's cap number didn't just cost us Tate; it cost us money we could have used on the D-line either keeping guys like Bryant and Clemons or taking a shot at guys like Ware who obviously has a little left in the tank.
3. Our offensive woes are because our O-line is bad and our play calling is bad. Not becuase Percy Harvin is bad at football.
4. If you buy the idea that we've been struggling offensively because harvin just isn't a good fit, then that speaks volumes for how much worse we can possibly be without him on the team.
5. if Harvin really is so awful of a teammate that the Seahawks are willing to part with him for what could be a 4th round pick after loading him up with cash and cap, it's a huge mark against everything we've believed about Carroll and Shneider and their ability to assess talent and character.
Maybe this was the best decision and in all likelihood I'm almost sure it was, but everyone trying to dress it up as not a huge deal, or thinks that we're somehow going to be offensively better, at least in the time it's going to take to get in good playoff position, without Harvin is crazy. Whatever kind of locker room cancer he is has nothing to do with his on-field ability when it comes to comparing your roster with and without him.
1. All true, I don't think Pete believes either Richardson or Norwood are ready for prime time roles (and for good reason, history shows WR's take 3 years to become what they will be in the NFL). However, we don't need them to be prime time players yet. Baldwin and Kearse need to step up and drop less balls, and be the players they were last year and the talents that they truly already are!
2. We could have kept Tate either way if he was that important to us...
3. Yes, you and I agree 100% here. However, that doesn't mean Percy was right for this team...
4. If you can't look at the stats and see that the offense performed better without Harvin in it then you are clearly missing something. Wilson had a Total QBR of 45.3 with Harvin on the field this season, and 71.0 without him in the game.
5. If you expect John and Pete to be 100% perfect with zero mistakes you're fooling yourself. They are going to make mistakes, and they have made quite a few already. Percy will be a black mark on the resume. However, having the balls to admit when you were wrong and cutting ties as soon as you know it, is a plus, so I guess those would even out to an equal wash... Unless you think that Tim Ruskell was smarter by keeping a player like Deion Branch that you knew he screwed up on.... If it's a mistake have the balls to correct it like John and Pete!
