Well damn. Julio's contract (12 year, 207M / roughly 12M annually plus incentives) looks freaking awesome now. What a steal.

Ohtani's $70M/year is more than the A's and Orioles entire payroll in 2023. Yikes.

Apples and oranges

Compare Soto's contract or Corey Seager , or Bellinger contract.

Better the Dodgers than the Astros, the Rangers, or the Yankees…

Seattle was never going to pursue Ohtani anyways.

Ohtani wants that money and to be in a big market….

That’s a lot of money for a DH like one of the posters here mentioned….

People talk about money all the time.

Just like Ichiro, the Dodgers will get the money back from Ohtani, as long as he continues to hit. Even if he pitches an average of 3.00 ERA.

The tickets will be higher,

The tours from Japan to LA,etc.

Cable television deals with Japan for LA games.

Really shows how Seattle was never in the sweepstakes to get Ohtani at all.

The Seattle Mariners aren’t a big spender and they also can’t build a viable contender.

The Seattle ownership is pretty bad but at the same time, you can say the same for about the rest of the MLB teams, minus 6-8 teams.
