They have picks to burn, and Lattimore needs time to see the field. To me, it is a pick that makes sense, because I think Gore is starting to decline.

His burst and top gear are just average, and he runs with an upright style that seems to invite injury. He's basically a "moves" back without the speed, like a less extreme Knowshon Moreno. I watched a highlight video from his 2012 season and the two longest runs he had all year were 43 yards and 29 yards. He's a bit of a "3 yards and a cloud of dust" type. Not only do I think he'll have an solid at best NFL career, but he's exactly the kind of running back our defense would want to face twice a year.
You could make the argument that he's a little like Marshawn (based on the speed level, lateral agility, and consistency), but Lynch stays healthy and has more power. Lattimore had several serious leg injuries in previous years BEFORE his horrible ACL/PCL/LCL hat trick in 2012.

Or catches a swing pass for a 25 yard gain. He will be the most complete back in the NFL since E. Smith or W. Payton. Then you can say "he run to up right or doesn't have enough speed" of coarse I'll be laughing at you.
I think he'll be a perfect fit for any team who is "smart" enough to draft him.

With a late round pick, who cares. Why not? But honestly, I'd rather spend a 2nd round pick on Eddie Lacy or a 3rd/4th round pick on Christine Michael than maybe a 5th on Lattimore. Both are better fits for our scheme and neither carry the extreme health risk. Since the 49ers run a similar system, I'd feel the same way if I was a 49ers fan. So in a way, I'd actually be happy if they took Lattimore given some of the excellent and safer alternatives. Especially if they end up taking him at the end of the 2nd round.
