Is Miles Austin an option instead of Tate?

I think he's worth bringing up here to take a look at. 6'2" and decent speed if he's not battling his bad hammies, though he always is. If they're willing to give Finley a look, why not Austin. 29 years old, another potential "prove it" contract. He wouldn't be Tate's replacement so much though. If you're looking for a FA that can get the YAC and be a return specialist I'd be looking at Jacoby Ford.

Why would we add both of them?

I'd have to take a solid pass on any of Jurrah's cast offs!
He over payed Austin, and got squat for it.
If you can't get a guy going by throwing a ton of money at them...
What's left?

Meh. If Tate goes, I think we can find another option in the draft. It's a deep WR class.

It is, but I get so annoyed when people make blanket statements about replacing players in the draft without naming specific targets. The draft isn't the corner store.

There is only one player in this draft who compares very closely to Golden, and we would be lucky to get him at #32 (Odell Beckham jr.). Plus rookie WRs usually need a few years to acclimate. Oh, and draft picks bust too, WRs bust at a higher rate than most.

I'd much rather just pay Tate $5 million per, save the 1st round pick, and avoid the growing pains.

Besides, even with Tate we still need to add a WR anyway to replace Rice. We lose Tate, and now we need two. I'm pretty sure Seattle knows all this and at a reasonable price they will keep Tate.

Miles Austin is washed up and can't stay healthy.

If the Seahawks can't bring back Tate there are surely better options to replace him with than Miles Austin.

Tate is so much better in every aspect, especially age.

No thanks.

I'd rather pay Tate an extra $1M a year than have "Smiles" Austin on our team.

I'd rather keep Tate at $5 million per, definitely. My point was that I'd rather take a chance in the draft than sign Miles Austin. I was not suggesting that we could get a Tate clone with ease.

I worry, though, that Tate wants more than Seattle's willing to offer, and that the talk of a hometown discount was overblown.
