A QB thats incapable of winning a game when he's called upon to do so.
What a ridiculous standard. He's heading one of the better offensive units on the NFL and playing like he's the best player on said unit, and you need fourth quarter heroics to see the guy as a valid player?

Can't you just celebrate high quality play? Damn.

I'm sure you were one of the people complaining for years about how they shouldn't always need to come from behind in the fourth to snatch a dub - and now you're negging a quarterback for playing extremely well throughout the game instead of just in the fourth?

You're determined to be one way, and one way only. That's the only consistency here.

He isnt playing bad at all. Actually he's playing pretty good, but lets not lose sight of who he really is.
LMAO!! and... who actually is Geno Smith? Can't wait to hear this.
A QB thats incapable of winning a game when he's called upon to do so.

Hmmm... is this who Geno Smith always was?

If so, how did he lead the league in game-winning drives in his rookie season with five, have two more in his only other season as a starter (out of 13 starts in which his gawd-awful team went 3-10) before this season, and how did he lead the Seahawks to Sunday's victory?
Smith led game-winning drives in five of the Jets' eight victories in 2013 and two of their three in his starts in 2014. So in his two seasons as a starter, Smith's game-winning drives accounted for seven of the Jets' eleven wins.

Before the locker room was opened to reporters after yesterday's game, Al Woods addressed the team and said that Smith and the offense bailed out the defense and won the game. So if you disagree with my assessment, you also disagree with Al Woods's.

I still don't think Smith is anything more than a stopgap for the Seahawks. I don't think he'll be a top-ten quarterback all season this year, and I don't want the Seahawks to pay him a lot of money to keep him for next season, much less for multiple seasons. But I just don't think Geno Smith "really is..." "...[a] QB thats [sic] incapable of winning a game when he's called upon to do so." He's shown that he is capable of doing exactly that, even leading the league in game-winning drives as a rookie, and he did it as recently as yesterday.

Youre creating a strawman so you can hold on to some shred of dignity

Nobody is saying he is definitively THE ANSWER (whatever that means) nor is anyone saying we should absolutely change strategies.....but he is objectively better than you, I and most gave him credit for.

What we can say right now is that he COULD be a long term solution. Its a possibility if he keeps this up. Something we never would have dreamed of saying a month ago

Lol. There is no strawman here. Geno is Geno. He will feast on bad defenses and bad teams and fail against the good ones. He is not a long term solution regardless of any stats that anybody posts.

No. Being so, so, so wrong about both Russ and Geno is a far bigger deal than whether the Seahawks are good or not.

But there HAS been some goal post shifting: Now Geno will 'feast' on bad defenses (which was an admission that was nowhere close to something we'd have seen during the offseason).

Whats truly consistent is his inability to win games when they are down in the fourth quarter. When he shows the ability to do that then I might jump on the bandwagon. Until then, he's still just Geno in my book.

The Jets were always behind so it was bound to happen there. I saw him fail miserably last season against the Rams and Steelers. Thats the Geno I know and expect. Again, win a game against a decent team and then we'll talk.

Do you know what a strawman is?
Its creating a fake argument that you know you can dismantle when the real argument has passed you by

Nobody here is saying Geno is FOR SURE THE ANSWER. That was your strawman.
We are celebrating his current level of high play because its a surprise to most here. ALL of us are taking a wait and see approach on saying he is the answer long term though.

Most of us have been mature enough to admit we didn't give him enough credit though.

You? Not so much.

If Smith were indeed "incapable of winning a game when he's called upon to do so," as you asserted, then the Jets would have lost the seven games in which he led game-winning drives.

If you saw him "fail miserably" last season against the Rams, what you actually saw was the result (a loss) and not the game itself. Smith was intercepted near the end, but it was because Lockett tripped. Smith actually played reasonably well. Given how long it had been since he had actually played in an NFL game, he played surprisingly well.

Whether the opponent was a "decent team" or not, Al Woods and I think Geno Smith again proved you wrong yesterday, winning the game when called upon to do so by the defense's awful performance. You said Smith is "incapable" of doing so, and you were wrong.

Fail miserably against the Rams?

He came in cold in the 4th quarter, immediately led a 98 yard TD drive on his first possession, led a 46 yard field goal drive in his 2nd possession (scoring more points than we had in the first 3 quarters with a healthy Russell Wilson). Then on the final drive where he had an opportunity to win it, his intended target fell over after the ball was in the air leaving an uncontested catch/interception. Geno did literally everything you could want from a QB in that game to win it - perhaps if he'd played 4 quarters we do.

Likewise against the Steelers, after scoring 17 2nd half points to keep us in the game, he drove us up the field in the 4th quarter, and with 15 seconds left, instead of stepping out of bounds, Metcalf decided to try and tackle the defender, fumbles the ball - almost loses it, and instead of having 3 or 4 attempts to score in the red zone, we have to spike the ball next play to leave us 2 seconds on the clock to kick a FG (which still takes us to OT and a chance to win). Now sure, OT didn't work in our favour and TJ Watt made a great play to force a fumble, none of that sounds like "miserable failure" to me.

It's definitely not Russell Wilson running into a 15 yard sack against the Bears taking a 25 yard chip shot to 40 yards in horrendous weather which was subsequently missed, putting us out of (granted, very slim chances of) playoff contention. THAT'S miserable failure.

I'm convinced you hate on Geno for the sake of hating on Geno. Lots of great responses to you in this thread with solid reasoning. I'd quit while I could if I were you.

When he earns it, i'll give it to him. He's going to have to beat a decent team first.

The Seahawks need to beat a decent team. Geno Smith isn't the only player on the field. Geno has been the best player on the field this year, on either side of the ball. That I can say with confidence.

Lol, he beat the hapless Lions and scored points against a defense thats almost as bad as Seattles. Hooray. Al Woods needs to be concentrating on his side of the ball instead of propping up his QB. Good teams arent going to give up 41 points.

And what has that gotten Seattle? A win against an injured and horrible Lions team and a win in which Denver shot themselves in the foot and should have won by double digits. In all rights, they should be 1-3 right now. Enjoy the Lions win because Geno will be coming back down to earth against the Saints.

While the Lions are not a good team, the Seahawks offense put up a hundred more yards and ten more points against them than the Eagles' offense did (the margin between scores for the teams as a whole was ten points too, because the Seahawks and Eagles each got a defensive TD too), and the Eagles have been the best team in the NFC so far.

In any case, I won't get distracted from the fact that Smith won a game when called upon to do so on Sunday, once again proving wrong your assertion that he's "incapable" of doing so. I understand you want to change the subject, but honestly, I think @CallMeADawg is right here. Accept that you were wrong and move on.

Geno played well in that Denver game. Whether or not Denver screwed the pooch is irrelevant. Since then the offense was opened up for Geno and he's looked good. We'll see how the New Orleans game goes. I'm expecting Geno to play good.

Damn Pitt, would it physically hurt you to just give the guy SOME CREDIT? Come on man. I agree it's WAY too early to crown the guy, but geez man, you're taking it next level. I'm literally picturing your folding your arms in refusal. Honest question: Don't you WANT him to very good so that you're wrong, and the team is benefiting from it?
