Was either Cottom or Shields waived injured or placed on IR?

A heads up announcement of a player signing by the media tends to lead official team announcements by 24 hours in many cases. I would think that, barring a contract signing delay or problem with his physical, we should see an official Jonathan Amosa announcement sometime later today at the earliest. Cottom and Shields were both free agents. So, the front office can move them directly to injured reserve without exposing them to waivers. Since their injuries are likely season ending, moving them directly to injured reserve seems likely. Terms for waving an injured player takes time to negotiate. However, there is no real urgency in moving players to injured reserve until the need to get a selected replacement on the practice field triggers a transaction.

I'd like to see this injury frequency slow down. But, of course, that is outside of the control of all fans and injuries are a part of football.

Cool to know, but after having Manu Tuiasosopo on this team and watching them struggle with it for a while I can only imagine what it will sound like. Probably Number (insert number) made a nice catch or dropped the ball.

Some of these players may be moved around on the DC depending on where they actually play.

That was a major roster shakeup. I fully expect some of these players will get picked up by other teams, or revert to IR and be back. One or two may wind up with injury settlements and be brought back as needed. I don't think we've seen the last of a few of these guys.

The team roster is always out of date when changes occur, but we attempt to post the announcement and changes here as soon as they are announced. Very occasionally we jump the gun based upon an anoouncement but usually the announcement is correct.

It's frequently frustrating to await the changes happening on .com as the folks doing the updating there are at times very slow catching up.

That's 16 roster moves in less than a week.

I think that makes 9 players on injured reserve. Depending on how many get cut later or get injury settlement, that's going to be a good chunk of cap space.

Once the season starts everyone counts -- which means if all these guys are still on IR that's going to reduce the available cap going into the season.

Jahri Evans signed a minimum deal for 10+ yr vet (according to Sheil Kapadia). That means his impact on the cap is only $155,000.
